I’ll be in OZ next week and will give Vegemite a try. I love Marmite and expect that I’ll like Vegemite. But which one will I like better…stay tuned. I’m looking forward to my trip and acquiring an Akubra hat and a taste for Vegemite.

Fun Factoid:

During the COVID lockdown, there was a shortage of Marmite, because the manufacturers buy used yeast from brewery's to make it and , of course, at that time the Beer makers had all scaled back on production because of lockdown, so not much used yeast available.

Vegemite is a tad smoother than Marmite, I started buying it when Marmite couldn't be found, as per Zorro's post.

There was a Guinness Marmite limited edition a few years ago, that was heaven sent.

I tried Vegemite but, for me, it didn’t taste that similar to Marmite. I thought it would have been much closer in taste.

Marmite doesn't seem to ever go off. I've been happily eating the contents of a jar that I only recently noticed had a best before date three years ago.

I recently returned from a month down-under (New Zealand and Australia) and had many enjoyable meals and snacks accompanied by Vegemite. I grew up eating Marmite regularly and love the stuff; however, I must say that I have now acquired a taste for Vegemite, but not at the expense of Marmite, I hasten to add. I find them quite similar, but also quite different in taste. I really can’t explain it even after a side-by-side tasting. My wife, who also grew up with Marmite, however, does not like Vegemite, even when used in a sandwich along with Cheddar cheese and watercress, her favourite sandwich when made with Marmite. I also like this Marmite sandwich, but I find it just as delectable when made with Vegemite. One advantage Vegemite has over Marmite is that it’s easier to spread on bread and toast.

This might sound like a weird combination but try Vegemite and lettuces on a
sandwich with multigrain bread try it and see.
