Hair pomade

I normally use gel on my hair and I'm considering pomade. Ideally I'd like it to be easy to work through my hair hold well and give a nice shine to last through the day. With such an array to choose from I'm looking for suggestions.

I'm considering,
Reuzel pink
Dapper Dan Deluxe
Layrite super shine cream
Morgan's Firm hold
Lockhart goon grease

Am I on the right lines with any of those?
Seriously, try Osmo Elite. I went through a phase of trying different ones, nothing beats the Osmo. Great hold, sheen, and washes out very easily. Completely non-greasy too.

You can find it on eBay, 3 tins for approx £12. Otherworldly it's about £6 a tin...

It depends on whether you want oil base or water. Each come with their good points and bad!
Oil base gives a really nice shine and is tolerable to wet weather and tends to remain slick, however it can cause oily stains and residue on clothing and pillows etc
Water based can also give a very good shine. Apply it the lightly towelled hair and it will go slick shiny all day Downside if it rains it will wash out!

I have been using Layrite original pomade "on my 4th "Yellow" tub. It is a water based medium hold and medium shine pomade that when I lightly towelled my hair and apply to,
Pompadours, jelly rolls, slick backs and shiny, no problem but stay away from Layrite's super shine cream and Reuzel pink. You need to use a lot to get a decent effect or control!!!
Lockhart goon grease - oil- is also good but it contains Petrolatum, Microcrystalline wax and gives a Firm/heavy hold.

I have never tried Dapper Dan Deluxe or Morgans sorry!

Try red or blue reuzel before the pink.
They have small 35g sizes so its a good way to try. They are water based, give a fair amount of sheen and hold.

Pink reuzel is oil based, it does offer great shine and hold but its very greasy and its not that easy to wash out, and every time you touch your hair youll have grease on your hands. Not sure if that is exactly what you looking for, but i wouldn't suggest it to a beginner in any case...

Currently using arcadian high hold pomade or the shear revival paste.
I’ve been using Shear Revival’s matte paste - called Northern Lights - for the last few months and it’s easily the best I’ve used. I’ve easily got another year or two’s worth of it to get through but I’ll be interested to see what’s new on the scene in time.
@Burgundy @pearse85 Are you brushing through the Shear Revival matt paste? If so, which type of brush are you using?

I brush my hair first with a (Kent military) brush before applying hair gunk. Sometimes I’ll style with a comb but more often than not I’ll just smooth things through with my fingers.

I do own quite a few pomades , mostly oil based but lately I prefer reuzel blue , because I have trimmed down the mop quite a bit :)

if you are a first time user especially oil based pomades I would suggest you to start with medium pomades at first ; the reason for me saying this , because they are more plaiyable and easier to use ; good ones to start with are brisk ( very cheap but has a verry distinctive cinnamon scent , either you love it , or hate it. ) reuzel green is also a highly ranked medium it smells of green apples with an underlying shampoo kind of scent , verry nice...suavecito medium is also very nice and has this classic strong suavecito smell , black and white is good too and a true classic with a baby powder smell , which is not to overpowering. I you are getting used in working with mediums , you cn gradually work up to heavies. goon grease is medium too and its second best too reuzel green imho :)

Here the humidity is very low, so the very light amount of oil in Lucky tiger hair tonic is perfect.

My hairstyle has changed somewhat during this lockdown resulting in a thick heavy, wavy mop. I want something with a light hold that looks wet and is basically only stop the "fluffyness". I've tried Osma Corruptor which sort of works but is a little too heavy. Must be water based. Any pointers chaps?

Wet, like totally wet or just with an added shine?

Reuzel Blue is a choice, perhaps..

Or maybe prospectors? But in all hounesty if you have thick and wavy hair I don't think waterbased pomade will cut it : either you will get a " helmet " head because you will need to much to tame the manes or it is not strong enough to hold it. A heavy oilbased like reuzel pink , goon grease heavy or rumble 59 schmiere heavy will. Dowside is that it will melt in warm climate.

Like you my hair has become unruly - based on the previous posts and not wanting anything oily, I went with Layrite original and used it today for the first time. It does what you want in terms of controlling fluffiness although I’m not too keen on the smell. Being grey and using just a little means I don’t get a wet look, but that’s OK for me. It’s something I’ll probably continue to use - even when I revert to the usual short cut.
