Preparation – hot water face wash and scrub with Dr. Squatch Pine Tar Soap

Soap – Jabonman Citricos

Blade – Sputnik Teflon Coated (use #2)

Again, I saved up two days worth of growth and, once again, the B&R had absolutely no problem whatsoever in mowing down the stubble. It was another smooth, fuss-free, comfortable but still highly efficient shave. For me, it easily gives a good 10-11 hrs before the 5 o'clock shadow becomes particularly noticeable again.

The range of adjustment is simply vast too - way more than, say, a Gillette Fatboy. There is a number to suit all levels of stubble even without going beyond one full turn of the dial.

Would I buy one? Yes, provided it is sensibly priced. (Albeit noting that it is not yet clear exactly what the price is going to be)

B&R Adjustable revisted

A great shave with the B&R Adjustable.
  • Faena Mastic soap
  • Nero Ardesia mystery synthetic brush
  • B&R Adjustable
  • Voskhod blade (1)

After my last unpleasant experience with the B&R Adjustable, I was more than keen to try it again. I can now see what went wrong the first time around. If the screw protrudes from the head the blade won't sit in it properly. No wonder the shaves were a bit rough, even on setting '1'. :eek:
I also received some Faena Mastic ASL in the post today, so I went for a mastic shave. :dance:
The brush today is a little bit of a mystery to me. In the box with the B&R adjustable was a Nero Ardesia synthetic brush. I have a theory who put it there. I plan to find out. The knot is set almost, but not exactly straight in the handle, so someone with Brush-OCD would dispose of it. If anyone from the pass around wonders where his Nero Ardesia brush went, please speak up :D
Apart from the very slightly leaning knot it's a nice brush. Nice heavy black slate handle with a hole in it (I'll take pictures some other day). Very soft, yet enough backbone. It had no problems lathering up the Faena Mastic soap.
I put a fresh Voskhod blade into the B&R Adjustable and cranked it up all the way to 4 - a setting that gave me a truly horrible shave last time around, before the screw was put out of harms way.
Right from the start I was very pleased. Very smooth, good balance and enough blade feel for my taste. I had two days worth of stubble and the B&R mowed it down without hesitation or irritation. This was an easy and pleasant four pass shave. I got two weepers, but I have to blame myself (not the cat!) for being distracted by the cat asking for her second breakfast of the day.
The result was a very close shave. Eight hours later my skin still feels quite smooth. Now that's quite an impressive result. The alum block had complaints where I got the weepers. Of course it would. Elsewhere there was little feedback.
The Faena Mastic ASL had no feedback whatsoever. That's because it contains very little alcohol. I was expecting a good kick from it, but there was none. A bit like witch-hazel, but with a lovely Mastic scent to it. It will now go into storage until Christmas and then I'll use some Tüff Sensiv ASL first (good dose of alcohol, hardly any scent) and then use the Faena Mastic ASL after that. The Faena did leave my skin feeling very relaxed and subtle though.
To summarise: A great shave with the B&R Adjustable. I'll spend the next couple of days exploring different settings on it. Good stuff so far.

I'm grateful you didn't identify the screw issue or I would never have got to try it out :) I thought we would have had some news regarding release date and pricing by now, I for one can't wait to get my hands on one of my own.

I'm grateful you figured it out. :D If they want any part of the Christmas business they should move soon. Very soon.

Ah gotcha, fair enough. Shame really, but understandable. I know the timeless was donated and am not sure if the RX has been or if that's going back to Paul?

I think we should aim for transparency at the beginning of all 3rd party provided pass-arounds stating what the end result of the pass-around will be. I.E, sent back to manufacturer, donated to the group to auction/raffle off for charity/site etc. Generally I think if razors are donated for testing (not lent for testing), they should be made available at the end of the pass-around to the group for charitable or running the site costs. Perhaps not the right section for this actually, but would be interested to hear people's thoughts :)

As nothing else has been agreed, the Asylum will go back to Paul. Both the Asylum and the B&R are on multi-forum pass arounds, so raffling them for running costs would be tricky anyway. Personally, I have no interest whatsoever in running a raffle myself. If nothing else has been agreed, the razors will go back. Simple.

I agree with @Looney12345 . Whilst we're all very grateful for the opportunity to trial these razors it should be made clear if they are loaned or donated and if donated what will happen to the donation at the end of the pass around?

Whilst I applaud the efforts of Andreas for his work done on our behalf, it should be made clear as to the exact circumstances as to how these pass arounds came about.

Is Andreas going to carry the postal costs of the returning the B&R adjustable to Turkey? Shouldn't this be a group responsibility? Just raising the question and why transparency is so important.

Yes forum running costs is a tricky one, potentially a minefield there. That said the Timeless razor was donated specifically to ATG as far as I'm aware so that's one example of where it could work. Charity on the other hand is unquestionable, can't see anyone having something bad to say about that.

I'm sure someone on here would be inclined to run a raffle for charity if we have been gifted a razor by a generous manufacturer. Otherwise, them going back to whoever has provided them in the first place is the right way to go for sure, agreed :)

Fair point @Acer89, as I'v been involved with the B&R I am more than happy to contribute to the cost of its return:)
