I bow to your knowledge. Out of interest what are your favourite knots?@Nishy first of all, another big “Thank you!” for putting this together, I am so glad I jumped in on it.

The smell of badger is something really strong, extremely animalic. When wet, it is appalling, something you surely won’t mistake for a chemical, or another artificial scent. I’ve handled 30-40 brand new knots, loose hair, only tied and not glued. Once I glued and wet them, the scent came out like you wouldn’t believe it.. so I know my stinky badgers really well
The strongest scent I’m picking up here is the scent of a Chinese store, and I mean no disrespect here by any means. All those stores selling “everything” (not food though) all smell the same where I live. What it is, I don’t know. The chlorine/bleach was there for a few minutes until I washed it off, now it’s barely noticeable. As for the other chemicals, I suppose only the people working in the industry would know the details, I gotta say, I’m not very interested myself... no real reason/benefit for me to know I suppose!
With regards to the feel of the hair, I would say you’re right on the money - this hair probably hasn’t been treated for as long as some of those “crispy when dry and gel-like when wet”. At least this is my assumption, since this knot feels more natural to me. In any case, this is good news to me. The knots are just right and the craftsmanship is, again, phenomenal!

It's always worth the wait, but from now on I'm going with Fedex. Germany and Sweden are two of the most organized countrys in the world and almost neighbors. It should take 3-4 days and not 14.Lovely twins

in my opinion, I find it closer to my Romera Manchourian than to a Finest of the M&F type.

I know they were good to go from arrival, but I decided to wait a week before cleaning my two brushes.
I got two Unique knots. A 2-Band and a Sivertip, both 28mm knots.
On the Silvertip, there was little or no smell and definitely nothing after one wash with shampoo. The 2-Band is rank. I've washed it out twice now, including with vinegar to try to shift the smell but it's as bad as ever. When I walk into the room I can smell it - it's like those old mothballs.
I'm sure it'll wash out so what I'm going to do is, after every shave, I'll give it a good wash and clean in the spare lather. Hopefully it'll pass within a few days doing that.
On another note, both my brushes literally never shed a single hair. I've read most new brushes will have a few rogue hairs in there but neither of mine had a single one.
The smell is only a bit of a nuisance, to be honest. The two brushes are a work of art. It was only when I was washing and cleaning at them that I really got a feel for the handles and overall appeal. Class, just class.

Here is the thing - and this is all from my own limited experience - I like a knot that is scrubby and even a little scritchy out of the box, tough and stiff. A great knot like that gets softer after 30ish uses, breaks in and becomes Holy grail... to me at least. It looses all the scritch, opens up a bit, but retains fair strength and scrubiness giving my face a nice “sports massage” there on after. This kind of hair is treated very little chemically, I assume. Whether you wanna call that Super, Manchurian, 2-band silvertip, etc, is really just marketing. The trick is finding it - as thin a hair as possible, yet the strongest. Gotta strike that balance. Color isn’t crucial here, you see. A little bleaching will create that whitish look we all love.
An anecdote to end this... I once thought it would be a good idea to sterilize my Chubby in Barbicide. Turned that thing nice light blue color in a minute! I cursed myself for a second there, but it was nothing a little oxy clean couldn’t fix, AND made it a little whiter in the process as well

The TSR Shavemac 2016 Spring LE, D01 2 band set at 28/52 fan has your preference all over it. Mine took around 40-50 uses to soften up but is now magnificent, no scratch whatsoever. I relate it to a brick with soft moss covering. Exaggerated but you get my drift. Well worth a shot.

I hate to go off topic, so I apologize to the others reading this... but it is a Shavemac, so....
This brush came from a member here, he had sent it to me to try it out. It wasn’t broken in, I would guess it was used a dozen times maybe. It has everything you and I like. Just needed another 40ish uses to get it there [emoji23] I used it twice or 3 times and sent it back home. One day I’ll get a D01 I’m sure!
