Wow seeing all the pictures of those bulbs and even the flats, makes we wish I got them all. Really great stuff. You know, I even went to the group buy link to try and sneak in another.. the link is up, but the actual brushes are out of stock. Brush aquisition disorder at its best right here LOL[emoji23]

Wow I feel proud that you would want more :)
It is always a nervous wait to see exactly what members think on arrival.

You should be proud my friend! This was a very smooth GB, even with that little hickup we had with the handles. Hats off to everyone involved for being so patient, and being perfect gentlemen.

I’m biting myself for having missed the chance to get a D01. You may see a WTB thread from me soon

Just watched your latest shave video, Avnish. The knot looks absolutely terrific. So that's a 28/54 Unique? Just so I have my specs right should I suddenly cave and get myself a new brush  Or should I hold for coming group buys??

Hi Halvor, yep it's the 28/54 Unique bulb knot. It is excellent and would be a marvellous purchase. But something to consider, as we all have preferences and these also change.

I have been trying to help out with lots of members brush 'tastes', over the years; to facilitate ordering. But I always wanted to go further so recently lent out a few brushes to @Optometrist as we have had many discussions over the right knot for himself. I sent out my favourite Shavemacs, the jade 2 band TSR LE 2015 unique fan, blue coral TSR LE 2015 Unique bulb, Shavemac ATG LE 400 style flat top, SV 2.0 and Shavemac snakewood custom 2 band D01. As seen below (jade anchor far right)

What I learnt through @Optometrist's experience (and it matched mine) was the Unique is great for the days you crave a lush more 'luxurious' shave. However I have a preference towards stronger backbone and tips with no scratch or scritch that over use maintains it's integrity. The D01 2 band Snakewood was my recommendation to be brush of choice and this was the end result.

The above brushes offered an increasing level of backbone and a varied tip feel, with regards to density, splay and shape. Originally I envisaged the following (in increasing backbone):

1. Jade anchor Unique fan. The only brush to exhibit softer gel tips than this is my M&F Chief Lee Sabini original. Backbone is medium. This was a marker for where backbone preference lay with regards to the experiment. This is right in the middle again with regards to backbone IMO.

2. Coral M7 Unique bulb. Lovely plush backbone (note these two brushes have different hair batch to the other Shavemacs. More crispy when dry sticky gel when wet) super massage feel, backbone more direct, more towards @Optometrist preference (with regards to shape).

3. SV 2.0 fan. Outstanding brush I love the backbone and tip feel including the density. Handle is superbly weighted, crafted and ergonomic. I want them desperately to bring out a bulb. If they have don't tell me I can't buy it right now. I believe @Optometrist preferred the previous Unique bulb over this knot.

4. Curve ball Shavemac Flat top. A different face feel, I find it quite direct and forceful, without being rough on the face. Scrubbing is more exfoliating and scrubby. It wasn't a contender though.

5. Snakewood Shavemac. I believe this was @Optometrist favourite brush of the trial. Great backbone. Strong knot shape and little splay. Direct.

I don't have a outright favourite Shavemac from my collection, instead a few top favourites. Reason being they offer a perfect expression of different feel, which can compliment different shaves. The latest LE sits amongst the top contenders. However if you are a D01 man, I hesitantly say wait. Completing on our first house on the 31st so it will be busy following. I believe it's less than a month since receiving the last LE and you vampires are after more badger blood :)

Let me tease you with my neck in the moonlight. I haven't discussed this with Bernd or any MODS as yet but very very early thoughts. One material- Snakewood. Three shapes, best of the best- Anchor, Snowman and the Rowl (inlays tbc) 3 knots: Unique, D01 2 band, D01 3 band.

Very very early thoughts nothing discussed or confirmed. I know Snakewood is hard to find, especially concerning size. Also it is pricey.

Apologies for the essay.

Great write-up, Avnish, and I'd like to publicly say a huge thank you for sending me the five brushes to experience, in particular, the two unique knots that have had my curiosity for a while, now.

My favourite is definitely the Snakewood D01 2-Band, backbone and scrub being my absolute preference.

I probably will be ordering a unique Bulb from Bernd, soon, but I need to get my three recent D01 2-Bands broken in as fast as possible.

I definitely prefer the unique Bulb over the SV brush. Whilst both are cloud soft, the SV has too much splay and reduced backbone for my liking. The unique Bulb is much more controlled. Different to what I generally choose in a brush, but sometimes a deviation can be welcome.

Very interesting Gents

Sorry to ask, I'm sure it's already written somewhere but can you tell us what are the specs of the different brushes?

Have a look at the 1st post on page 1.

IIRC I'm sure everything is listed in that post.
