Rockwell model T update.

I was in early and pledged $79+delivery when I thought I was going to get an all stainless steel razor.

Cancelled my pledge for a full refund a couple of months ago.

It was a hard decision as I thought the full ss would materialise at some point.

Glad I did, if they are having problems with zamak, that ss is a long long way off, if at all.

Same here. Once they announced that the SS version was not in the immediate future, I pulled my chips off the table and cashed out.... A shame really. I really wanted it to happen. An all SS version of an adjustable TTO razor. That would truly have been something..... Bummer.

I'm still hanging on in there. If I pulled out, it wouldn't make me any richer and in the meantime I have razors galore to shave with.
If and when it comes out and it's a hit, I would be kicking myself for having backed out and having to pay twice as much to get it.
Zamak or what, it's going to last more than me, if taken care of and I do take good care of my stuff.

Refund issued, but it only seems to be for $79.00 unless the extra $20.00 extra for postage is being issued separately ? Anyone from the UK been refunded, if so did they refund the whole lot ?

When I first asked for a refund, they replied and said Kickstarter take a small percentage.

I replied back and said I received a full refund when I cancelled the 6S and other members of the shaving forums I was a member of received a full refund (blag)

They gave me a full refund.

They are refunding me the $79.00 I paid on Kickstarter, but UK buyers paid and extra $20.00 for shipping direct to Rockwell if my memory serves me correctly. I wish I could remember what month tho so I can download the correct statement.....:)
@celestino

Just confirmed they have refunded the full $99.00, cannot ask for better then that !!

good luck to Rockwell regarding $150 price point on release date... I left while back when they changed materials from all brass to zamac/brass/SS combo, then waited for the SS version fruition and no dice, so I asked for refund... I would of still be in the KS if they originally kept the all brass version and charged us more for the machining touch ups on some parts, if you all remember the very first 20 prototypes that were all brass were satisfactory and all brass, but they were touched up on either cnc or manual mill....

Till this day I still don't get it why Gareth was dodging the option of touching up the all brass head parts instead of looking at all SS model, he had them! 20 all brass prototypes in matte coating looking great, but he was constantly steering away from that option that was proven to be possible and opted to look into SS model?....

In my opinion Gareth turned from the company who use to like to please the safety razor shavers to a company who is still trying to do the same BUT if troubles arise they rather take the easier route and flip the bird to those who appreciate longevity and quality out of their razors. Rockwell took the easier root with the Model T and yet still people dropping out from the KS who actually didn't care about the materials but are upset regarding the timing of release, to top it off he wants to sell the razor for $150 on release date.

I personally think that he flopped this one, which is exactly what happened with the first 6S and then he recoup himself with the 2nd MIM version of it. I think he needs to go to the drawing board with the Model T and deliver it in all brass version and then he can charge $150 on release.

Missed this January update. Read carefully.

Notice the paragraph with the "definite price increase" for full retail?
Hmmm... I wonder why?

January Update - T-Bar Head Manufacturing & Assembly
Dear Backers,

We’ve been working diligently on all aspects of the Model T project since the last update, and we couldn’t be more excited about the progress and the feeling of really being in the home stretch! In this update, we’ll be providing some news on shipping timelines, our early discoveries from the Canadian machining and assembly processes, and what’s next for the Rockwell Model T project.

Final Parts Adjustments & Shipping Timelines

In the last update, we referred to the manufacturing of a new T-Bar Head that had been redesigned to accommodate the reaming of a more precise assembly hole than the originally-designed assembly hole built into the casting. This design change had been made due to the variance in full production of the original design making the part not suitable for mass assembly at the precise tolerances required to get the perfect shave! While back in December, we’d expected we were nearly done production of the new parts, we discovered an issue in the mold in our post-production quality control steps that caused the T-Bar Head’s post to be “off” by several degrees. We fortunately caught this error, fixed the mold, and have since then produced new parts that meet all specifications, and these parts are being imported as I type this! While this means that we unfortunately won’t be able to begin shipping as planned at the end of January, we’re confident in beginning shipping at the end of February and still aim to be finished fulfillment by the end of May. We’ll be sure to include lots of pictures in an update as soon as the batch assembly is complete and we have razors heading out the door to our backers - we’re as eager to celebrate the fulfillment as you all are to receive the product!

Canadian Assembly Process

In our last update, we mentioned that the subassembly of the Model T in our own facilities has been moving along, but it had become clear that the demand for the Model T is so significant that we would need additional machinery and additional assembly lines get up to meet the demand of our existing backers, and the additional backers / wholesalers that pledge their support or inquire about availability every day. Those additional machines have arrived, which is part of the reason that despite the above-mentioned delay with the T-Bar Head parts, we’re still confident in completing assembly within the now-smaller time window.

Some Final Words & What’s Next for the Model T

Beyond that, there’s one thing we know for sure that we’re certain our backers will be interested in. We’d hinted at this announcement in our last update, but there was a lot of other information in that update and we noticed the increased price announcement may have gotten lost within all the other announcements! The final retail price for the Rockwell Model T will have to be significantly higher than the price that all our backers have pledged for their pledge rewards. We won’t know the exact final price until we’ve had more cycles of full product assembly, but we’ll certainly be announcing that price to our backers as soon as it’s finalized, and we’re certain you will find that all backers have received an exceptionally good deal. And frankly, we think you deserve a great deal for all your early support and ongoing patience!

As always, thank you for allowing us the time to get things right on this pilot production run. The thousands of backers who have remained with us through this whole campaign represent the true essence of Indiegogo and product crowdfunding in general - believing in an idea enough to pledge their support, and providing feedback on the project through to completion. We appreciate each and every one of you, and look forward to sharing a bunch of exciting pictures of finished products in shipping boxes, hopefully in time for the next scheduled update!

Sincerely,

Gareth

I am one of the people who haven't backed out and I wonder how this T will shave. Since the beginning of the campaign, there are a few new DE's on the market admittedly non adjustable (save for the REX Ambassador) that have taken the market by storm, true game changers. The Paradigm 17-4 for example and the Ti. If the T is anywhere as smooth as the 6s, (which I doubt as efficiency and smoothness are inversely related), then even with the price hike it's going to be a bargain compared to a limited edition Wolfman or a Paradigm. If it's not, I think it's going to be left on the shelves. Time will tell.

even if its as good shaver as the 6S considering price hike that brings the razor to 120-140 price range it wont be a hot sale item because the whole head is molded out of zinc

For equal shave quality I would pay more for a TTO Adjustable. Guessing not everyone would.

The Rockwell Model t had 4,000 backers. I am not sure of the number of Fatboys or other Gillette adjustables in excellent shape are on eBay.
