I received a full refund from them when they cocked up the 6s.

Hopefully they will do the same this time.

I never participated. I was burned once by a Kickstarter (non-shaving campaign) that was never completed and decided I would wait and pay the extra $ rather than lose everything. I did some research and found this about their refund policy. There are a number of restrictions on refunds. Look here.

Kickstarter has some FAQs on refunds. One of them states:
Can Kickstarter refund the money if a project is unable to fulfill?
No, Kickstarter doesn't issue refunds. Transactions are between backers and creators directly. Creators receive all funds (less fees) soon after their campaign ends.

The Kickstarter blog has a lot more information about this. Among other things the blog states:
Can Kickstarter refund the money if a project is unable to fulfill?

No. Kickstarter doesn't issue refunds, as transactions are between backers and the creator. In fact, Kickstarter never has the funds at all. When a project is successfully funded, money is transferred directly from backers' credit cards to the project creator's Amazon Payments account. It's up to the creator to issue a refund, which they can do through their Amazon Payments account. (Like PayPal, Amazon Payments allows refunds for 60 days from the date of charge. After 60 days, creators cannot reverse the same charge to backers' credit cards, so to issue refunds they'll need to initiate a new transaction to send money via Amazon Payments or PayPal, send backers a check, or use another method. Our support team has guided creators in how to issue refunds like these before.)

That's what I said - it is up to Rockwell to issue the refund. KS does not accept any responsibility once the funds have been released. Too many people think they have protection by KS or other crowd funding sites - but they don't. If a company never completes a project you stand in line with the rest of the creditors.

Not good..... I feel for those that have laid out the $$$ for a project that now looks like there will be another campaign for, possibly. FUBAR if you ask me...

This from their update in their campaign site update log.
Stainless Steel Model T

As some of you may know, we've been exploring the option to manufacture an alternative version of the Model T out of stainless steel using CNC (computer numerical control) for a small subset of backers that were interested in a stainless steel option. After extensive exploration of options by our engineers and manufacturers both domestic and abroad we’ve found CNC for the 14 applicable parts to be simply prohibitively expensive. We’ve engaged a MIM specialist firm to better understand if there are small tweaks we could make to the Model T design files that would make it “manufacturable” via metal injection moulding at some point in the future. However, at this point, any possible Stainless Steel Model T would be rolled out in a separate campaign so we could properly gauge interest. However, we would encourage any backers interested in the Stainless Steel Model T to retain their pledge on this campaign, as we’ll be offering backers of this campaign a colossal discount on any Stainless Steel Model T we’re ultimately able to manufacture. We understand there are some passionate shaving enthusiasts that are backers of this campaign, and we’re eager to do whatever it takes to eventually make your “dream razor” - a twist-to-open, fully adjustable, fully stainless steel safety razor!

Thank you for continuing have our back! Please reach out to us at info@rockwellrazors.com if you have any questions about production before the next update on August 25th

Can we play hide and seek? Discount? Able to manufacture? Again, FUBAR....

This is about the SS version of the model T which as people showed interest in, Rockwell took up the challenge to implement, perhaps without all the parameters into consideration at the time. We are all aware that one should actually begin to go through the process to find out the hidden pitfalls that could not possibly have been imagined on the drawing board. I'm sure the Rockwell team will sort them out ( as experience has shown),in due time.
As far as the original campaign is concerned about the zamak head model T, yes there is a delay from the original scedule but that is something to be expected from all KS campaigns and razors are about to be assembled and shipped sometme soon. I have no problem with that and I'm sure it will be a high quality, worth having razor, as always expected from Rockwell.
As far as the SS version is concerned, people may opt to get their money back (less the 10% KS commission) which I'm sure Gareth will find a way to make right. As long as I have my original model T, I can then decide based on performance whether I'm also going for the SS version when and if it becomes available.

I paid my money to take a chance on an unknown razor project, the way I am looking at it I will be getting an adjustable razor for about $79.00 at whatever the exchange rate was at the time. If I don't like it then I will sell it, but I knew what I was letting myself in for when I paid my money........So I await the delivery of my razor in a few months..........:)

Sod it , I have pulled out , got my refund minus 10% , sick and tired of carrots on sticks being dangled in front of me .
No more for me , finito.
I feel for you and if one looks at it this way, there is no other way to act, but get the refund. We all knew it was a KS project and bound to have delays though. Most of them do for that matter. For this uncertainty reason, we all got a reasonably fair discount for backing up this model T project that was still on the drawing board. The way I look at it is that for a discount on a potentially great adjustable TTO, I'm willing to wait beyond the time lapse promised. I personally don't feel like the Rockwell team is dangling a carrot on a stick on us, but more likely they are more worried about timing as it's their reputation at stake and if they mess up with this one, they will never be backed on any subsequent projects which inevidably limits their scope of doing business.

Batch300

Extraordinarily Uncomplicated
I have always wanted a nice TTO razor - adjustable is a major plus. I am not sure a razor made in a Ming Sui clone factory with excellent & shiny chrome plating meets my desires. FYI - I ordered the gunmetal finish.

Rockwell tried and had a good concept. The Kickstarter price locked Rockwell in to some unfortunate cost savings. I would have been willing to add 50% to my pledge to improve materials / local manufacturing / engineering improvements.

I do hope the Model T is good and successful razor.

Dear Backers,

It’s been a very productive month since our last update! As you may remember from the last update, I was meeting with our manufacturer to review the razors that were assembled using the updated fixtures in early August. From that assembly, we learned that the parts were dimensionally within tolerance over 98% of the time (a 2% reject rate for a project of this complexity is fantastic. However, we discovered that fractions of millimeters of “wiggle room” within the fixtures were causing compounding assembly problems around the T-Bar and the Top Doors. Put simply, this was resulting in a minutely bent razor blade in a small fraction of assembled razors, which unfortunately still put us outside an acceptable reject rate for mass production, completed products.

That being said, we’re actually coming to backers today with good news! Since that early August assembly, we’ve update the fixtures one final time to fit the head pieces and the rod as snugly as possible during critical stamping procedures in assembly (which has been made possible only recently with the further improved tolerances of the T-Bar component). Pictures of the updated fixtures are below:

And finally the good news: the test production at the end of August (basically a “retry” of the early August assembly except with updated fixtures) has been our first success, meaning we’re proceeding with the full production as outlined in the last update! The only thing that’s changed is that we’re now expecting the first 1000 razors to ship approximately 4-5 weeks from today, with the following razors following closely behind (still on the end-of-November schedule that we mentioned in the last update). That means all Indiegogo backers should expect to receive their Model T tracking number close to the end of November.

It’s been quite a rollercoaster month for us, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be in the home stretch of bringing this incredibly exciting innovation to market. We hope everyone is as excited to be amongst the first people in the world to try a Model T as we are to begin shipping! Thank you again for continuing have our back, and please reach out to us at info@rockwellrazors.com if you have any questions about production before the next update in late September / early October (unless you get a tracking link before then!)

Well, at least they're trying. Makes no difference to me one way or another. All SS would have had my attention, but we will see. I backed out a while back, no interest in re-upping. Hopefully they nail it......

This is good news,
my concern though is whether the T will be as smooth a razor as the 6S. I backed the project not because I need another adjustable, but I love the smoothness of the 6S. I just hope they use the same head parameters even if this is a TTO.

Some more news on the Model T. More issues with finalizing QC and assembly. Looks like there will be a slight further delay in delivering their razor to backers and the masses.

October Update - Assembly & Pictures of Production Finishes
Dear Backers,

It’s been an extremely busy month since our last update, full of developments that we’re pleased to share.

Domestic Assembly

As you know from prior updates, we have had full parts for some time but getting the parts assembled and validating that the design is robust and passes our QC tests in mass production has been our final bottleneck. I want to start with delving into the most significant product decision that’s been drawn since our last update: The Rockwell Model T razors that backers will receive are being assembled in Canada. More precisely, they’re being assembled in Canada, at our facilities, overseen by our Canadian engineering firm as well as the Rockwell Razors team.

The rationale for this decision is simple - the final bottleneck on getting all these products out the door and into our backers’ hands are the assembly and quality control steps. As you’ll recall, we’d made the original decision to have the Model T razors assembled at a professional assembly factory, but over the iterative process of dozens of test assemblies, with samples being shipped back and forth across the ocean for cross-examination throughout careful mass production, we realized that the final assembly steps are so critical to the quality of the razor that we need to have full control of this process in-house.

By consulting with the assembly factory, our own engineers, and assembly specialists, we’ve now put the assembly directly in the hands of a team that produced the Model T design and DFM files themselves, with ultimate quality control being executed by the Rockwell team. This is the strategy we employed to produce, assemble, and quality check the extremely popular Rockwell 6S, and we’re confident that it is the best choice for the Model T as well. This will ensure that Model T razors are assembled the way they were meant to be, consistently, and with stringent quality control checks.

All of the above pictures show a production White Chrome Model T razor being assembled, but we know many backers have been looking forward to seeing the production versions of other finishes - here they are!

This is a Brushed Chrome Model T in a Stainless Steel Stand, to show the slight difference between the appearance of the two similar-looking finishes / materials

The extremely-popular Gunmetal Model T!

Final Part Adjustments

In the process of testing the domestic assembly we also found two parts that individually were within tolerance but were still difficult to assemble while keeping overall tolerances (which directly affect blade gaps). This lead to a minor design change for these two internal parts that addresses the assembly issue and greatly improves overall tolerance when the razor is assembled. Given how important tolerance to specification is for a precision razor we have ordered changes to the molds for these two parts and will assemble all the razors with the two revised parts.

What Does This Mean For Backers?

While we’re behind schedule on when we hoped to ship out the first batch of Model T razors, we’re confident that this new assembly process and final part adjustments will get as many high-quality razors as possible in the hands of backers as soon as possible. We’re now hoping to receive the two adjusted parts and assemble a QC passed first batch by the end of the month, with the remaining razors soon to follow. Once assembly here is fully up-to-speed, we’ll be able to provide a better timeline for you all - we expect that timeline will be coming in the next update!

Again, we understand that these delays can be frustrating but thank you for your support and patience. This is not our first razor and the lessons we learned with the Rockwell 6S, 6C and 2C is that we need to do the hard work to get it right upfront and cannot compromise to send out an inferior product. You, our backers deserve excellence, and that’s our commitment to you.

Thank you for all your ongoing support while we do everything to make the Rockwell Model T the best razor in the world. We can’t wait for you all to receive your pledge rewards and be the first people in the world to try it! We’re confident you’ll be very proud of having been a part of the creation process of the Model T. Thank you again!
