Yes, they are both different and yes you can die from both. The big difference is that Covid19 has been far more deadly in 6 months that the H1N1 was in the 2009 pandemic.

The pitfalls of trying to do too many things all at once, I didn't finish writing my initial post!
Yes, of course there are differences between the two. I had a different strain to the H1N1, I've forgotten the exact number for it.
When I was staying at my cousin's house, I think only one person didn't contract it in the end. The symptoms were a very serious flu, ie the temperature, cough, loss of taste and for my dad it turned into pneumonia, and he was taken into hospital where they were able to provide treatment and he made a recovery. My symptoms were a less lot serious, I had a really bad temperature for 3 days, lost a huge amount of weight but once the symptoms went I managed to recover reasonably quickly.
Covid on the other hand was a much stranger more difficult thing to recover from, I'd still have occasional symtoms several weeks after my initial ones (which lasted for about a week) for a few days here and there which seem to have come and gone, and even though it's been several months since contracting it, I've not really made a full recovery just yet.
Just from a personal perspective and as I had one of the 'terrible flus' and also Covid, I can safely say Covid is a very different beast. A few family friends lost their lives to the virus, one of which lived around the block from me.
