Pass Around Atelier Durdan No7 DE razor

For me the 0.7 felt a bit like a Blackbird both in blade feel and effectiveness. If that helps.
Oh, wow. That’s much more than I expected. In that case I guess a .50 would suit me better. Very interesting 🤔 thanks for the feedback!

I would check that other people agree first before ordering as I might be an outlier. Personally, I found the 1.1 R41 levels- very efficient but not an everyday shaver.

Razor: Atelier durdan No 7 (0.5)
Blade: Schick platinum
Brush: Wald Nimbus A1
Bowl: Captains choice obsidian copper
Soap: Ariana & Evans Daniele Maullu Croap
Aftershave: Ariana & Evans Daniele Maullu Aftershave.

The No 7 Razor didn't disappoint. Pretty much what I expected after trying out the 0.3 and 0.7 gaps in a passaround. Just exactly where I wanted in terms of aggression and smoothness. A very enjoyable experience.

Hello everyone,

Trying out the 0.3 and 0.7 plates to check my initial choice of a 0.5 plate for this issue 7 of ATELIER DURDAN.

The plates were lent to me as part of the PASS AROUND organised by the AGAINST THE GRAIN forum and with the kind cooperation of HOLYZEUS from Great Britain, whom I would like to thank very much here.

I found this delicious scent of violets from JABONMAN complemented by this excellent AS from ETHOS

Test with an ASTRA GREEN plate

Verdict:
-> The violets ... What happiness
-> 0.3 plate - it doesn't shave much, so I quickly switched to the other one
-> 0.7 plate - I love it, it's super effective and gentler than the 0.5.

Well, the next test will be with the 0.5 and 0.7 plates, but the latter has won me over - I'll take the opportunity to give you more details.

Today, BBS in 2 passes with a few touch-ups

And that's it,

Have a nice day!

Thank you for the nice comparison. I have the 0.7 plate and have been wondering about the 0.5. Curious to read your next comparison.

Hello everyone,

Review of the 0.5 and 0.7 plates - continuation of my review of the Number 7 razor from ATELIER DURDAN - ASTRA VERTE blade

Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements in the spotlight today - a creamy, protective lather with the perfect scent ...

The verdict :
The Plate 0.5 - it shaves very well, but with less smoothness and efficiency than the Plate 0.7 - it's really surprising - however, I find the latter too efficient for a daily shave - with better handling, a more adequate blade, I'd probably avoid a few blood spots

-> The ideal Plate? - Probably a 0.6 Plate, to be honest, which could combine smoothness and efficiency without being too effective like the 0.7 Plate for everyday shaving.

The design, the quality of the metal and the handling of the razor remain the strong points of this razor, without detracting from my Blackland Blackbird Lite.

Have a great day!

I have been trying the Atelier Durdan N° 7 baseplate 7 for almost a week now - with a variety of blades (Wizamet, Personna Platinum Chrome, Gillette 7 OC Black and Yellow, Feather, Gillette Platinum).
With the exception of the Gillette 7OC Black, all of them behaved very well in the Durdan 7-07. The head is very very light, so excellent handling and control. I’ve been pairing it now with an old Mühle Briar Wood Purist handle, long and light enough to make the razor head heavy.

I can compare it to the Haircut & Shave Efficient Ti-5 in terms of smoothness and efficiency, with the Atelier Durdan N°7 being a bit more easy to control and a bit more efficient.

It has given me a nick under the nose though, with the Feather yesterday - precisely at the spot and time where you have to let go of the safety bar. Nothing problematic, but it has a very slight positive blade exposure indeed.

I reverted to the Personna Platinum Chrome blade today - and everything was perfect again. I do a WTG and XTG pass, just straight passes without buffing or overshaving; the ATG really feels very good.

I’m very happy with this baseplate - haven’t tried any other ones - and can’t compare with the Blackland Blackbird since I don’t own one.

Blade feel is still less than an Ambassador at 2+ settings, I’ll compare with the Lupo .72 one of these days.

But indeed, at baseplate .07 you get very smooth and very efficient shaves!

Enjoy your days as much as your shaves!

Very promising indeed. Can’t wait to receive mine in probably 2-4 weeks! I went for the titanium version with 0.50 and 0.70 plates.
