What made your day a good one?

If someone breaks the forum rules they will be dealt with. If you can't ignore them you risk running afoul of the rules yourself.

We try to take a light-touch approach but personal attacks will not be tolerated.
There is a fine line between “light touch” and permissive. As another member noted, who moderates on another forum, those two members are as well behaved as juvenile sheep.

The Semogue Brush thread is an example of how trolls can reduce or eliminate the value of an otherwise useful thread.

We are fortunate that there is an Ignore button, not all forums do, it saves stress and annoyance to all and the last thing that anyone needs to see is two bastions of this forum going at it head to head over something as here today and gone tomorrow as a foolish post on ATG, do not rise to the bait.

Sage advice.

Last year it looked as if the forum activity was dwindling. I mentioned it to a member and they said maybe. Since the Shave Den closed, several new members are now active. It is those members that I am concerned when they post what they are having for supper, or what brush they are using, or something a about vaccines or healthcare where obvious nonsense is posted.

There was also an appeal for financial support from the owner and something about fewer vendors. Vendors have choices.

While I am not trying to argue with @Chris and I realize he has a difficult and demanding role to play. I do appreciate his efforts. I have invested five years and have many enjoyable conversations with many members. When someone is degraded over their appearance so that they feel the need to explain, that is being unkind. I do not think being unkind it what any of us want and those unkind words exist even if some have the offending members on their ignore list. It is public. It is representative of the forum and its owners and staff.

This is my final post on the matter and I want to make it quite clear that the discussion ends here - feel free to start another thread rather than derailing this one further.

- I have a full-time job, a family, and interests beyond this site, I do not have time to read every post. Often I am only aware of rule infractions when they are reported. Posts that are not reported are sometimes missed. It's inevitable.

- I try to deal with reported posts fairly, balancing the forum rules against a certain amount of latitude, in contrast to other fora that have a reputation for being over-moderated. This forum itself was born from an exodus resulting from moderator over-reach, so it's something we're very aware of.

- Publicly criticising other members, no matter how justified you may feel you are, shifts the focus onto you - not them. This can backfire badly.

Moderation is a thankless task, either someone's mad at me because I've deleted something they posted, or someone else is mad at me because I didn't delete something they took exception to - even if if didn't break the rules. It's impossible to make everybody happy all the time.

Have just spent a couple of days with my sister, her husband and kids. I don’t get to see them all as often as I would like as they live some distance away and so it’s been a nice few days. It’s been nice us all getting together at my Mum and Dad‘s who enjoyed this especially.
Appreciate them while you can, time can slip away. I seem to have outlived everyone except my wife and kids.

Just replaced the display panel and keyboard in an HP Elitebook 6 G1A. The keyboard is integrated into the top cover so the only way to get to it is from underneath. That and the panel mean that I have had to completely disassemble the thing, there was not one single part still attached to another part.

The fact that it works now it's back together has made this a good day. :D
