I'm doing something very similar, having just finished with soap paring down. I'm going through a razor for 6 weeks solid, each week with a different blade and making a decision from there. I'm 3 weeks in with a baby smooth Al, and it's great though
Wouldn't be happy it being the sole razor in my den. I'm hoping to have it down to 5 razors.

I've relegated 6 razors to the bottom drawer of my dresser. I now use only two razors: my first razor, the R89 Twist, and my last razor, the One Blade Genesis. I'm working with the Alpha and Omega. Simpler is better. I only wish I could whittle down my soaps and creams.

I think the OneBlade's charm rests firmly in its presentation and aesthetics. The shave is very smooth, perhaps not the most efficient, but with correct technique, efficiency is still very good.

With regards to the PILS, it's simply brilliant. Looks, shave etc. I would happily sell everything and keep the PILS but I like variety.

Hey buddy hiya doin,

Oh man, your claiming to sell off almost all your razors reminds me of someone. Let's see....who was that member saying the same thing, but the plan was somehow changed to selling zero of all his wonderful toys! Yep, it was that lovable DB for sure.

Anyway, I have three regulars in my rotation, one which is a frankenrazor composed of a Stahly head/UFO handle, a 1958 Executive, and the F type injector. To fill in the occasional blanks and still enjoy the shave there's US Aristocrats/Diplomats and long/short Super Adjustables. All mild shavers fitted with sharp blades.

This last month for some reason I have been reaching pretty far back in my arsenal and once again getting some razors wet after a loooong drought. Odd ones to experience again, even though some might not be a great fit. So far the ones used are all fine, although some do take more attention than I'm used to.

The last 4 days a 1934 Type Aristo has been used, loaded with a Light Brigade, and jeeeez, this has always been my favorite OC type! Mild compared to most others with teeth, and a beautiful handle pattern. Before that the razor used was a Kirby, also loaded with a LB and it was also a kick as usual. Heh, too lazy to clean off the silver handle tarnish, but the chrome head always shines.

Previous to that I dragged out an old OC made by Dovo and distributed by Corrado Cutlery in Chicago. This one's got unusual teeth and I gotta watch what I'm doing to avoid any color in the lather. The one before that was a 1955 President I hadn't used in years, loaded with a zippy fresh 74 and had some great shaves with that combo. All the razors were used 4-5 days. Sorry, but too lazy putting together a group shot, at least for now.

There's more on my list to revisit and so far it's been a good experience. Shaving with different razors can take some tweaking and it seems like I have got the hang of this goofy 'hobby'.

The “not sure yet or out of fashion for some reason” row:

That leaves quite a few relegated to the corner cabinet, including King Cobra and Wolfman Guerrilla. All perfectly capable of giving good shaves and most of which really should be offered new homes (or I need to get a proper rotation scheme going).

Hey Martin all I can say is I'm off to Google some of those razors you mention.

Each time I look at my razor collection I dare not look any in the eye, they know I'm thinking I'll thoughts; as the Presidential 5 have their own shelf :)

I picked up the Mamba for tonight's shave, been watching National Geographic of late.

See how I avoid the vintage monkey on my shoulder. I do have a Fatboy though...nice.

I prefer a razor to give me BBS or near as dammit with two passes and minimal touch ups. Regrets, I’ve had a few, but then again.. Nah! I’ve only sold razors that didn’t do what I wanted so all is good on my shelf. I can’t see me buying much more soaps as I’ve tried what I have wanted and settled on what I like now. I have two Reef Point soaps en route and that will be me for a good while. :okay:

Parker Variant

Rest of My razors and these give nice shaves too:

Muhle R41 (not in daily use)

One razor that I don't use but still have it:

7 is just too many to make an objective list. Did you pick 7 so you can change razor every day?

Personally, I have a little selection that I'm currently playing with, a larger selection that I've forgotten how good they are, and an even larger selection that I should have sold but haven't got round to :)

What I'm trying to say is that I can think about 2 or 3 razors at any point in my life, but the others drop off the radar... I'd even say you lose the acquired motor skills to control them as best you can.

On that basis, every day is currently spent with a Charcoal Level 3 SB, occasionally swapping out to a Level 2 SB baseplate. As usual, it feels like the shaves have never been better :nunchaku:

7 was just to replicate a seven day straight set. I ideally want to cut it down to 3. But I know that will take time.

One thing for sure, I'm slowly cutting my soap collection down further. I would be happy to use MdC period, however I have a couple of icolonialli pucks and a Grandstaff Vetiver (very large) that I want to finish. Add to that my love of vintage soaps (Tabac & old spice in particular) I have no need to buy any more. I mean on holiday I used original source and had no real issues. I have used olive oil too with great success.

I need to overcome my mental block with razor hoarding. Having used the one Mach 3 for around 8 years with no issue I should be able to just have a few in rotation. I'm finding unless the razor is excellent the fun:cost of new razors is just incomprehensible to my needs; given I have great options. But we all know how things can change :)
