Pass Around Timeless Razors Pass Around

Apologies for taking the centre stage again, but I just wanted to report about the new 0.68 OC base plate I recently aquired.
Today's shave:

Short handle
Astra SP blade
0.68 OC head (MY OWN PLATE, NOT IN THE PASS AROUND)
Scalloped cap

I had a great shave this morning with the 0.68 OC plate. Still very efficient, I achieved BBS with 2 passes and touch ups. No nicks.
Compared to the 0.95 you can afford some lack of attention and get away with it.

For me this razor is at its best in the OC configuration, whatever the gap. The 0.68 is more suited for daily use, but the 0.95 is a great plate too.
You probably want to get to know the razor using the 0.68 OC first, then move to the 0.95.
Over to you @Barry1963

Much has been said in this thread about the look and the finish of the Timeless. For my two penneth worth it really is a beautiful thing. It feels wonderful in the hand and is a joy to behold. It oozes quality.

So to the shave. I read through this thread and @carbold was kind enough to give me some advice. My experience of an OC is limited to a Fatip Piccolo, so I decided to use the solid bar for my first shave as I am more familiar with this set up. I will brave the OC's in the next few days.

Finding the right angle was intuitive. The first pass wtg was extremely smooth. I tend to use my Rockwell 6C as a benchmark and this was easily as smooth as the 6C. I could feel the blade but it was never uncomfortable, and it mowed down two days growth very efficiently. Second pass xtg was equally impressive. In fact I could have stopped there and been very happy with a DFS. But I was enjoying the experience, and feeling not a touch of irritation, so I thought why not? I'll go for a third pass atg. The result - excellent. If I ever get irritation it tends to be when shaving atg on the neck. But this was so comfortable, and my face is as smooth as it ever has been. I went through my usual post shave regime, but I could easily have left the balm out.

So a very enjoyable, and very impressive first shave. I look forward to mixing things up in the next few days.

Many thanks to @Nishy and the generous folk at Timeless Razors for the opportunity to try this lovely razor. Cheers guys.

Very interesting @Barry1963, I'm intrigued to see if you will go for a third pass with the OC!
What Rockwell plate size do you thing the 0.95 SB equates to?
I will brave the OC this evening! I would say plate 6 on the 6C comes closet to the .95 on the Timeless. But I must say, the shave with the Timeless was very close. I was amazed by how little stubble I had 12 hours after the shave.

As I mentioned in a post replying to @carbold, I was very impressed by how little growth there had been in the 12 hours since my shave with the .95 solid bar. So 24 hours in, I decided to delay the appearance of the OC until Saturday morning, when there will be more stubble to plough through. This shave with the .68 scalloped bar was a joy. Three carefree passes for BBS. Combined with the excellent cushioning provided by the MWF, the shave was smooth and comfortable. Very impressive. Wish me luck with the OC!

Yes it does! And I think it looks best either with the OC or with the scalloped solid bar.
Did you notice any difference between the scalloped cap and the smooth one?

I didn't Carlo. But perhaps for a genuine comparison I would have needed to keep the same base as the first shave. Did you notice any difference?

Well that was certainly an experience. It's the most I have felt a blade in a shave, although admittedly I have relatively limited experience. But it wasn't at all uncomfortable. I viewed it as a bit of a test of my technique and in that respect I think I passed with flying colours. Not so much as a weeper and I was BBS in 2 passes. Just a touch of irritation post shave but that was dealt with very efficiently with some BBA balm. But I don't think it is a bar that I would feel comfortable with using on a regular basis. I can imagine that for someone with a very heavy beard growth it would be ideal.

So I have enjoyed using the Timeless. It looks beautiful, particularly with the scalloped cap, and feels marvellous in the hand. For me, the .68 scalloped bar would probably be ideal. Although my shave with the .95 solid bar was possibly the closest I have ever had.

Thanks to @Nishy and the chaps at Timeless razors for giving me the opportunity to try this lovely razor.

Could the next person on the list please contact me with an address and I will post the Timeless on early next week.

Thanks for the feedback Barry, I think we have the same view on the 0.95 OC. It gives a very good shave, but you need constant attention. However I would say that after 3 week of use I refined my technique and eventually the 0.95 OC didn't feel so scary anymore. I got the 0.68 OC and I'm now using both depending on beard growth....

Thank you Carlo. I enjoyed using the Timeless, and it is clearly a high quality razor. But I don't think I would buy one at present.

Just to put matters into perspective after approximately 3 weeks of using the Timeless 2 passes took me around 6 minutes. Now after about a year I complete 2 passes in under 3 minutes easily (0.95 OC). Not had a nick with this razor in over 7 months. I honestly believe it comes down to practice/experience with the razor. Audio feedback and face feel are excellent indicators with this particular razor.

That would be my experience with the Timeless as well @Nishy it is just a lovely razor to use, hence, I suppose, the reason why I have all the available stainless steel top cap and baseplate options. Not everyone gets on with it, granted, but the same can be said for absolutely every style and make of razor, brush and soap. For those that do, however, it is a piece of kit that is well worth investing in.
