Never really got into Lapsang Souchong, might be I never found a quality one.
Now enjoying some Thailand 'Bai Yai' Assamica oolong. Not really a fan of mineral oolongs, but this one is quite light but going strong in 4th steep.

I'm really enjoying Lapsang Souchong at the moment ... I think I overdid it a bit when I got into tea, but with a little break I'm really enjoying it again. Specifically, an EH Booths'.
I've also come back to Lapsang Souchong, having enjoyed it at a rather expensive afternoon tea at Cliveden. Imperial Teas (my local) also used to do a very nice Smoky Caravan and, I think, a Russian Caravan - both no more.
Their Souchong looks a bit dear, so I reckon I'll have to try their Tarry Lapsang Crocodile.

Having been drinking through a mass of stuff that I've ordered over the last few months, I'm just waiting on an order of odd teas from Tea & Coffee ...

GABA Oolong Tea
Qi Lan Oolong Team
Formosa Ruby Black Oolong Tea
Xian Luo Black Tea
Black Gunpowder Tea
Malawi Thyolo Dark Fired Tea

Meanwhile, I continue to enjoy my single estate Bukhial Assam in the morning, often with a dab of Rwanda Rukeri, various Fujians through the day and a malty Yunnan in the evening. Occasional Lapsang Souchong or Rose Pouchong. More occasionally, Ancient Arbour Puerh. White teas have been whittled - I like really low-brow Shou Mei/Sou Mee.

Having given up drinking (alcohol ... yes, for good), the GABA Oolong might well kickstart something that's been suppressed for some time ...

How do you mean? Does is have 'properties'????

And well done on the alcohol. I have done the same. Not sure if forever yet, but it isn't as hard as I thought it would be.

I packed in coffee a while ago (which, again, I didn't find as hard as I thought i would) and am staying off caffeine for now, but I am looking forward to trying some of these in the future.
I am thinking tea has more benefits than coffee (which is just caffeine, right) It seems a fascinating world.

Thanks @Grarea - Yes, it's strong in GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid), something which is suppressed by alcohol.

"GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, and GABA-like drugs are used to suppress spasms. Alcohol is believed to mimic GABA's effect in the brain, binding to GABA receptors and inhibiting neuronal signaling."

When long-term alcohol intake is removed, the brain can do with just a little help ... one of the suggestions (for diet) is to temporarily increased foods which contain GABA.

You know what? The moment I made the decision, I didn't feel regret, panic, fear, intrepidation ... I felt free. I've done it with harder stuff, with cigarettes ... I can do it with(out) alcohol.

I used to be big into Arizona Green Tea but kind of got off the train but lately Ive tried to recommitt myself to drinking tea instead of Diet Coke. I feel like at least tea starts out as something natural, even if they add stuff to it later on.
Im getting back to packing Lipton bottled tea in my lunch for work, drinking Arizona Green Tea and drinking hot tea both when I wake up and just before bed. Ive been trying some of these night time teas and they really seem to put me out before bedtime. Ive been drinking this Yogi tea called, "Bedtime" and I like it. Its got some spices mixed in it and the stuff really knocks me out before bed. I havent slept like this in years.

Ooh, Lipton Ice Tea. I'd entirely forgotten about that. Cheers!
Its not bad. I also pack some of those instant tea packets in my locker at work and I drink that during the day too. I figure at the least, its better than drinking Diet Coke all day long.

Too sweet
I can understand that. My wife bought a bunch of, "British" teas (Earl Grey, etc) for our New Year's brunch and Ive been drinking it just so that it doesnt go to waste. Its OK. For me at least, its certainly an acquired taste. Im more of a green tea and herbal tea person.
I can understand that if you were used to drinking black tea, how Lipton would seem very sweet. Ive got some Lipton peach tea and it is pretty sweet.

One of my persistent favorites, a yunnan black variety: http://www.artoftea.com/6am.html

Art of tea: 6am

Tasting Notes: Cedar, Malt, Honey

A specialty of the southwest province of Yunnan, this unique tea is harvested from ancient trees on the protected land of Jingmai Mangjing's Blue Mountains. 100% organic, hand picked and sorted, this black tea steeps a rich, earthy infusion with notes of cedar and honey.

I had a couple of cups of a Lui Bao tea last night. I'd quite forgotten the psychoactive effects of that tea! Wow! Slept like a log with some seriously weird dreams.

Liu Bao is an interesting tea with an interesting history. I recently decided to introduce (more) fermented foods into my diet (bio yoghurt, miso soup, kimchi, kombucha etc.) so fermented leaf tea fits the bill. I have a big leaf tea from Pekoe Tea, Edinburgh and am waiting for a 90s aged from China. There are some very aged and very dear teas out there - tempting.

If the '90s aged is the one we were talking about above, you're in for a treat! It's dark and mysterious. I think the only comment I might have to add is that it is recommended NOT to drink the first steep. Flush the leaves through and awaken them, then drink the second and onwards. I do wonder if that washes away much of the fermented goodness. I've always slugged the first steep straight down.

I laud your efforts to include more fermented foods. Don't forget about simple cider vinegar ... a splash in a wild and wacky tea like this might easily come through as quite sweet. One to try next time.

Tonight, I'm enjoying the last of a Tan Yang Gongfu which I got from Green Tea Guru - it's really nice. Later on, I think I'll hit the ancient tree puerh.
