Razorock Gamechanger

Shave #3 in the books.

Today though I decided to use the newly acquired Mamba on one side and the GC on the other. Kept everything the same with both razors using KAI blades. The Mamba kept its original handle, and the GC used the Maggard SS one. Both well balanced with good feel and maneuverability.

Put the Mamba on the right and the GC on the left. Both gave excellent shaves with 2.5 passes with the right side requiring some buffing, although light with the Mamba going over neck and jawline. Both sides BBS with no nics, weepers or cuts. And NO irritation of any kind. Both shaved well with good precise cuts especially lining up the sideburns and working around the corners of my mouth and stache areas. Superb results, plain and simple.

Is the GC better in terms of efficiency/aggressiveness? Yes, no doubt about it. It sings as compared to the Mamba which just hums, nicely. And I like a bit of audible feedback in my shaves. It’s one of the signs that my angle of attack is spot on and the razor is doing what it was intended to do. Cut whiskers efficiently and smoothly. Which brings another point. The GC was almost identical to the Mamba in smoothness, yet felt and sounded more efficient and aggressive. How? Perhaps the increased blade exposure and gap? I don’t know, but it did for me. One other thing I will point out is this. The KAI blade just works wonders for amping up a razor at least that has been my experience with the de’s that I have used.

I will get one more shave in with the GC before sending it on to it’s next recipient but will use a Feather blade as a member asked me to try it in the razor. 3 absolutely great shaves. One more to go....

Oh, and the Dead Sea Soap & A/S splash are amazing. I don’t know why I don’t use it more....

I bought the .84P plate for my Game Changer and I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. Will the top cap on the Mamba work with the Game Changer bottom plate? If the .84P plate works out for me like I'm expecting I'm going to sell the .68 plate and I'd like to know if a Mamba owner could use it. Thanks

Well, both base plates are different and I will tell you that I have not tried shaving with the Mamba top cap on the .68 Gamechanger base plate. If you look at a few of the pics below, the caps do drop on the plates but, how it will effect blade exposure and the shave I cannot say. It’s an interesting thought though and one that I just might pursue....

I will say that even though the Mamba cap does fit over the Gamechanger base plate, I feel as though it is not a precise fit as I can faintly tell that it feels a bit off. The pics are not very illustrative of this but, I feel it there while I’m trying to hold the cap and base together. Further investigating required and possibly a test shave...

Thank you very much for all your effort. If you do take the Mamba top plate paired with the Game Changer base for a spin I'd be interested in hearing your feedback and opinion.

Finally decided to give the Gamechanger with the .84-P base plate a go last night. 2 passes plus touch ups and an awesome first shave that was nearly BBS minus a couple of spots around Sir Adam.

Retains practically all of the smoothness from the original but, gets a bit of a bump in efficiency. Really a good compromise between smooth and efficient. Blade feel is minimal yet, I do feel a tiny bit more of it than from the .68 base plate.

Fit and finish is excellent with exacting tolerances from CNC machining. No, it's not Wolfman, Paradigm , Timeless or Raw Shaving finish quality but, for the price it's really hard to nit pick.

It's a great deal for the quality, workmanship and performance it delivers. It might not have the premium uber luxury look or name but, it delivers a premium quality shave that punches way above its weight.....

Thank you for the information, Gus. I've never used the original, but have the 0.84 coming.
How would you compare the efficiency to the Karve F plate?

Karve with the F plate? No, not close to it in terms of blade feel or efficiency. The F on the Karve gets its feel mostly because of the huge blade gap but, I think there is still little blade reveal/exposure with the F. So it compensates with gap and span.

The Gamechanger & .84-P plate almost feels more like a D plate on the Karve for me. The thing is this, I actually feel a tad more blade feel with the GC .84 than I do with the Karve D and is slightly more efficient. The blade is definitely exposed more on the GC and has a wider window for angle of attack allowing one to feel more or less of the blade.

So, to answer your question it does not feel like a Karve on F. But, if you have possession of a Wolfman WR1 in the .74 or .80 gap, the shave with the GC is extremely similar to that of the Wolfman within those gap sizes.

I believe my explanation could be rather fruitless in helping paint a better picture for you. I hope that helps a bit amigo...

That's most helpful, Gus. Thank you. I also have the Karve D plate and a Wolfman SB 0.74.

I have the exact same set up as you do. The Game Changer with the Barber Pole handle and both the 68 & 84 base plate. I have to agree with you on your evaluation of the different base plates. Paired with my RazoRock Silvertip Plissoft Synthetic Shaving Brush and you have an amazing combination. I see the Game Changer as my daily goto and I've actually started the process of selling off the razors that I don't or won't be using any more.

...also took delivery of the .84 base plate...they .68 and .84 both perform very, very well for me...great when a product meets or exceeds expectations...

In my opinion the 68 shaves in a very similar way to a WR1 standard gap. I’ll soon get the 0.84 and I’m fairly confident it will shave similar to a WR1 0.74/0.86.

You look at the two heads and it wouldn't be surprising. The blade appears a bit more vise clamped in the Wolfie but it does look a lot like Joe set out to build a Wolfman-type head to a price with enough difference to not get too much grief from Wolfman.

...although the .68 has a tad more blade feel and efficiency, for me, it has a similar feel to the Fatip Gentile, which is also a great shaver...

Been reading this thread from time to time, still on the fence...does either base plate offer a different feel to the Wolfman SB? (.68 seems to be the most mentioned) or are they both very similar? In other words, for those that have both the Wolfman and GC, do you notice any difference worthwhile with regards to the shave experience?
