Collect, no. but I do have an appreciation for them. My current favourite is the rOtring 600.

There are collectors out there for both vintage and modern, the Vacumatic pencil below is about 75 years only and still as practical as it ever was.

I do have a few. But, to me nothing beats a good old wooden pencil. It’s the feel and smell of the wood. The process too of sharpening it.

A fun thread... during my vo-tech days my study was Drafting and CADD. We got Staedtler #2(don't remember the model) lead holders and lead grades were taught to us to change and use for different drafting things. HB i think was the softest/darkest we used...
I'm into writing tools but a pencil will hardly be used by me so i try not to go too deep in the pencil ocean... i will get one if i see an older mechanical or a rOtring or something i like at a flea-market though...

Thanks to the enablers here, I just yesterday received a box of Mitsubishi 9850 HB pencils and an M+R 0602 two-stage sharpener. I haven’t been this excited over a small purchase in ages! Tracking says my Blackwing Audition Pack will arrive Monday. It was a bit pricey but it comes with a digital coupon worth $10 off a dozen of one of their Core varieties. After I’ve had a chance to try them all I will likely take advantage of the discount

But leaves a dark script, correct? Also, the point of the Blackwing was to lay down a dark script with a light touch was what Steinbeck was to have said he preferred. A light touch is less likely to cause your hand to tire if using pencils to write for long periods. Maybe experiment with using a lighter touch because I have not noticed the 9850 to wear down quickly.
