It's the Victorinox knife that was issued to the Swiss army, it's the same toolset as the Pioneer but without the lanyard ring and the logo is the Swiss cross rather than the normal Victorinox logo. The other difference is that on the reverse of the tang there is a two-digit number representing the year it was manufactured for the army, 98 in my case.

They're a bit harder to track down than the Pioneer, but I wanted an actual Swiss army Swiss army knife.

I’m a huge fan of Mike Latham’s Maniago collaborations. M390 blade steel with titanium bolsters, liners, and bronze bushings. Easily disassembled for deep cleaning. Very lightweight. They’re all I carry anymore.

These two have been earning their keep this week, especially in the recycling department, mostly cutting cardboard but also a few other tougher materials. There has been a noticeable fall-off in sharpness from the Microjimbo, CPM S30V; the Para 2 CPM 15V steel held up far better. I gave both knives a refresher on the TSPROF Kadet, tried out the new TSPROF Kadet Glide Hinge Unit. Comparing it to the older TSPROF hinge unit version - wow! What a difference that makes.

I know it’s a little old at this point but I doubt I’ll ever test the limits of M390. I only carry them, and use them to cut tape on boxes.

I use Spiderco Sharpmaker rods for fine touch-ups and maintenance on the slipjoints. And a little 1x30” bench top sander with fine conditioning belts for maintaining our Wusthoff kitchen knives.

Once I collected 35 knives Victorinox. But then I realized these knives needed to be functional, so I gave them away. I kept four favorites for myself: Huntsman , Waiter Hoffritz, Alox Solo, Classic SD (with a black toothpick)

I also have a couple Opinel (#8 and#9 ) , Morakniv Companion, one Kershaw, and several multi-tools.

But my most useful and favorite one is Victorinox Classic SD
