First shave tells me the contrary: that the F plate is MORE efficient than CGLvl3, but I also get more blade feel with the Karve.

Another matter: I read the little note that came with the razor about it staining during transit. The top plate looked a little scruffy, but instead of the suggested tooth paste, I put a dab of Flitz on a cloth and rubbed gently away. Dang, something happened. Goodbye bead blast finish, welcome semi shiny! Finished with Cape Cod and another buff with a dry cloth. Should easily lend itself to high shine polish, based on how quickly this change occurred. Seems to have upped the glide relative to the blast finish too.
Interesting, and how YMMV this is.
Judging by my now 2-pass standard, the CG Lvl3 gave me a very noticeable closer shave, both on immediate feel and beard growth, a few hours later.
I hope you like it, though.
I never had that note with mine, but there wasn't any necessity. Mine had no changes when it arrived.

Chris recently added note/instructions on how to buff out any marks or early patinas. Shaking around in transit as well as air travel in a hot summer with humidity apparently affected some of the bead blasting.

My April Karve was pristine but the second one (hot/humid July) had a few marks but the toothpaste trick worked perfectly in no time.

Does anyone have a 3.5’’ handle I can try out? Mine is the shorter one, and given the weight of it, I think I might prefer it to be longer. My Charcoal Maze handle is the same length, yet both lighter, thinner and with better grip, thus much better to hold.

Loving my plate E. It isn't as smooth and efficient as the BBS-1. Yet not far off and much cheaper. Lovely cutting feel and high efficiency to marry a smooth level of blade feel. Wonderful.

I'm getting ready to order one of these based upon the good reviews written about it so far.

The handle selection is easy for me to make as I prefer longer handles.

I'm not sure about baseplate choice though (it's almost like there are too many options), so I thought I'd ask some advice from those of you who already own one.

I get on pretty well with relatively mild razors on my face (such as a Feather AS-D1, Ikon OSS, ATT M2, Mamba, Guerrilla, Gillette Tech's and NEW's etc) but am also partial to the Blackbird SB and Timeless 0.95 SB.

For head shaving the pinnacle comes from my Timeless 0.95 and a 6S on plate 5 or 6. I can get away with an ATT R1 as well (although it isn't the smoothest of shaves) but really struggled with an ATT H1 and 2011 R41 as I found them far to harsh.

I'm looking to get at least one extra Baseplate, so what options would you guys advise?

I'm currently leaning towards an A (or even an AA) and/or a B for my face and a D for head shaving (based upon the blade gaps listed on the website).

Timeless 0.95 SB = E plate
Mamba = C plate

What I'm finding is the C plate is not massively less aggressive than the E, yet the E is a lot more efficient. So to emulate the efficiency of the E, I tend to push the C, resulting in slight irritation. I do need more practice with the C to be totally honest only had 2 shaves with it. At least 6 with the E.

No problem, just to revise my earlier comment, the Mamba is actually milder on the face than the C, but I haven't tried a lower (aggression) plate.

Tough question. One thing to appreciate is the feeling of blade on face. The Timeless pings stubble of my face, the Karve feels like a zip or similar to the BBS-1 if you like. Both very smooth.

Anyway IMO the Timeless Ti 0.95 SB and 0.95 SS OC are smoother. The Ti OC (0.95) is not as smooth as the Karve, but this may be down to the matt finish. Very little difference between the Karve and the above.

Going by your preferences, which appear quite similar to mine, I would advise going for the E. Let's face it the Mamba/Oristo/PILS/etc provide a near perfect mild shave option. With the E your not getting anything overly aggressive (akin to the Timeless 0.95 SS OC) but you are maintaining that all important efficiency level. Took around 5 shaves to fully appreciate the plate's preferences.

Just for clarity, I haven't tried the D, F or lower than the C plate; as well as only having had a handful of shaves.
