New Mühle stainless steel razor 'Rocca'

It is sexy looking razor but I am not volunteering to buy one :p:. I just calculated that I have spent about 1500 eur to razors in 2018:eek:. I think I am good now for a while. I have bought Blackbirds, Dart, ATT R1&H1, Timeless and just bought Rex. But to be honest I am STILL tempted to get Rocca again at some stage....

I will not buy Wolfman or Karve but Rocca ...maybe.
You only need to add the Paradigm SE to your lineup!!!

Well just shaved with the new Rocca V3. Build quality is what you would expect from Muhle. Inserted the blade and the razor seemed to ‘clamp’ it better but besides that I could discern no noticeable difference in the shaving experience or dynamics in comparison to the V2 head!.

I am not sure of the bottom plate really; looks like a pain to clean.

But maybe I should buy one eventually; then I would have all three generations ;-)

Good to see again activity in this thread:)

I would like to add more of my experiences with this razor, based on what I tried and worked/ or didn’t.

After a long and very serious commitment that I would not buy another razor untill I discover if Rocca is THE shaver for me, I have come to some conclusions:

Indeed Rocca is very efficient.
I shave every morning 5x week, 2 passes and 1 ATG to clean my neck. For me Rocca is the only razor to perform the ATG with (especially with Astra greens).
The head geometry and short guard of the baseplate allows me to do it very easy and in control. With others - EJ, X3, Progress, Fatboy and Slim it’s not that efficient and comfortable ( the stubble on my neck grows very very close to the skin, it doesn’t rise while growing but gets glued to the skin - ingrowns).

After a long pause I’ve used again the Progress and Fatboy for several shaves, to see if mild razors work better for me than Rocca (efficiency, skin feel etc.)
Ended up with ingrowns, irritations and not so close shaves (guess I lost my hand/angle with these two, shave was smooth, pretty clean but I payed the price after).

- Best blades for me in Rocca - Astra (green and blue), Derby(!), Nacet.
- Decent shave - gillete yellows, greens, astor, treet platinum, personna (the US ones).

Polsilver and GSB gave me a bad irritation and ingrowns that lasted about 1 week.

Voshkods, gillette platinum, personna chrome, supermax, rapira and, in general, other not so sharp blades didn’t work.

I rarely use same blade twice (except feather and nacet). I don’t kno why but almost all blades seem to pull/tug at the second shave. Could this be the razor?

V2 vs V3 head
In my case there is no difference in shave performance, so I decided to give away the V2 to a friend.

Whatever I do, I see myself going back to Rocca for a good, clean shave.
The fact that sometimes, in the evening my neck is full of ingrowns/bumps I think is due to my constant experiment with blades in this razor. And my difficult type of beard.
I use no pressure, and I think I have improved a lot my technique for the past 2 years of wet shaving.

Where most of the people would give up and buy other razor, for me it was important to see that this product is not just a marketing hype but a very technical product which requires a learning curve.

Next step - 10 days only with Astra blades . I will only change the soaps I have in my rotation, after I learned pretty good the performance of each and every of them on my skin.

If by keeping 1 constant in my shaves, I will not get the results I want (pretty clean shaves, not necessarly BBS, no irritation by the next morning) I will sell the Rocca and buy a Karve with 2 plates ( open comb/closed comb). I see it is very popular as a daily shaver and nobody (except few people) complains about it.

If anyone here has both razors, please let us know if it’s worth doing so.

Cheers!

I really like razors with slim heads - makes them more maneuverable. I understand the Rocca is efficient but is it also mild? I've read it's between R89 and R41 but that gives only a vague idea. It's a good starting point (I prefer razors not as aggressive as R41 and not as mild as R89) but there's a lot of room between these two.

Also from the pictures it seems to have a relative big blade gap and I'm concerned if this makes the razor more aggressive than I prefer. In general I'm a bit confused if I should try the Rocca or not. Of course one cannot be 100% sure until using a razor but I'm trying to shape a better idea beforehand.

Many things can be said of the Rocca, but I do not believe mild is one of them.
I do not have enough experience of other razors to give you a cleared idea though.

Thank you both for the input! Perhaps mild is not the correct word to describe what I'm looking for. I shave every 3-4 days so for sure I want something efficient and on the aggressive side (e.g. the Merkur 34c is simply too mild for me). On the other hand I don't want to be on the edge all the time making sure to use the right ankle without some room for error. My skin is quite sensitive and I easily get irritations and nicks so I prefer "forgiving" razors.

For example the Parker 24c is such a razor and also the Merkur 39c Slant. Both quite efficient but - for me at least - very easy to handle. On the other hand the R41 is quite aggressive but not so forgiving. I have no problem using it and it's great for many days hair growth but I have to be extra careful, remember to put no pressure at all times etc. Reading though about the Rocca being less aggressive than the R41 I thought it might suit me. Of course this doesn't mean that it's the right razor for me just because I'd like it to be.
