New Mühle stainless steel razor 'Rocca'

No reply from Muhle yet :( Perhaps I'll hear something on Monday.

My last shave with it today, it's back in the box until the issue is resolved... After discovering the top cap on mine isn't flat I made a sort of temporary self leveling shim out of blu-tak (NASA can only dream of my inventive prowess :p:) It simply filled the gap between the blade and plates... Shave today was much smoother and in line with what I experienced with my previous Rocca, not perfect of course, I mean it's only blu-tak so there was still some give in it but it very effectively showed the roughness is directly related to that gap which is caused by an imperfect base plate or top cap... On mine at least, Halvor's is the anomaly as that has the gap and yet shaves great.

8:31am this morning I received an email from Muhle saying after inspecting the pictures they would like to replace the head for me...

As usual I'll update with pictures and thoughts when it turns up... They appear to be based in East Sussex so if that's where the head comes from it shouldn't take too long.

...with a bit of luck you may end up with a razor that's shaves like your previous V2; reminds me of similar problems with the Weber...a sorted one is a terrific shaver, I hope the Rocca follow's suit. It would be interesting to know what they are seeing from the pictures or if the are just replacing the head out of goodwill...and if the V2 heads were sorted and it is only some V1 and V3 heads that have a QC problem...

My guess is they semi automatically just replace the heads.
I think it's a known issue to them and the asking for pictures is just to ensure you're not on the blag... The chap dealing with my query wasn't the slightest bit surprised or concerned to hear of the problem and declined my offer of sending them the defective head for inspection.

Will just be glad to get it sorted so fingers crossed the replacement is up to scratch.

Their site has 0 Roccas available. I wonder if Muhle is again sorting possible quality challenges or is it just due to high demand. This we can only speculate :)

No. My V2 has the same problem.........at least they are consistent.

Mine too, but at the time I just thought I didn't like the shave. If I'd known I would have returned it rather than sell it on...
I think I will try to improve mine by contacting Mühle, rather than give up on what might be a good razor.

We (well I at least) always assumed the hold ups and production stoppages with the Rocca were due to Muhle being unhappy with the cosmetics, the tool marks etc... It makes far more sense in hindsight that this is the issue they've been struggling with, users have been divided over this razor since it was first available, I wonder how many are out there, forgotten in a drawer or sold on as the owners think it a poor design?

Mühle were certainly going way down in my estimation, as the Rocca is my only experience with them.

We must bear in mind that up until 2010 they had only ever manufactured and sold shaving brushes, they are not traditionally a razor company and certainly not a high end stainless steel razor company. So far, they have always listened to customer feedback and made things right... When people moaned the R41 was too aggressive they changed the head design to make it less blood thirsty, when the screw part kept snapping off (R89/R41) top caps they changed the design so the part was now made of brass... They've not made a problem free razor yet it would seem

The R41/R89 are now regarded as modern classics, hopefully in time the same can be said of the Rocca.
