No problem @Nishy.
Still new to this game, so any comment about a specific item, still leaves me in the dark.
I do obviously look them up, but often find variation at the end.

Trying to narrow down the eye candy aspect.

I’m using my Rocca as part of my blade testing at the moment.

The logic - if a blade is unsuitable in my Tech it’s unlikely I will ever get on with it.
However if it is good in the Tech, I try it in the Rocca.
If it’s still acceptable, it must be good lol!

I have currently got through 11 blade brands and only have three on my good list, Voskhod, Shark Super Stainless and Sputnik. Sputnik only last two, three pass shaves, whereas the other two are still going at three, three pass shaves (haven’t tried to push beyond that).

Not sure if this logic is sound though.
I am happy to donate my V2 to a pass around if required.

Hadn’t followed these developments, chaps. Very interesting. Can only say that I’ve been getting great shaves from my (Avnish’ old) V2. Efficient and smooth from get go. But now I need to have a closer look, as this certainly must be an intended design. Still doesn’t explain how shave quality varies so vastly for people though?

Right, have had a look at my Rocca. Indeed, there is a gap between top and base which allows ~8mm of the Wickham sachet to be pushed through (varies a little between the four points). In terms of flex, the blade feels somewhat softer than in the Paradigm 17-4, but this owes to the distance from the clamp point to the edge of the top cap rather than the lack of clamp. I can’t see it actually flex where it should be held down, but there is less flex at the middle than sides, matching the outer lack of clampdown.

Thanks Halvor. Seems no point waiting with bated breath to hear what Muhle say as we're steadily accumulating a small mountain (okay, a little hill) of evidence it's obviously part of the design. I originally thought it was a QC issue with only some affected causing the huge discrepancy in end user reviews but that's a dead end now.

I've been using my R95 with a Polsilver SI combination and have gotten nothing but smooth, BBS shaves with two WTG passes. I'm sympathetic for those who can't get on with this razor. To me, it's one of my favourites.

Mate, if you haven't tried it yet then please let me save you the agony...
It didn’t help.
Curiosity killed the cat.
Popped in a new Shark Super Stainless. (Thank you @ajc347, replacing the kindly sent
@Wayne - securing Shark as a go to for me)
Rocca WTG pass, adjusted angles, super slow, no pressure - no weepers or irritation, but skipping blade, not a smooth pass.
Dropped the blade out, popped it in the Tech, re lathered from bowl for XTG pass, smooth as silk.
Didn’t bother with an ATG pass, I’m saving it for Saturday and didn’t want to risk agitation after the first pass.
So just DFS today.......it was hard not to go for it, I hope you appreciate the resolve required Lol

If it helps, I would have done exactly the same thing  ...At least you didn't get any weepers!

Really scratching my head for ideas to try tomorrow to see if I can tame the beast. I can deal with aggressiveness, it's the juddery motion of the head and complete lack of slickness that gets me, it's impossible to "glide" with it, you have to manually force it through the lather which exacerbates the aggression :(

Overpriced razor shaped paperweight that's what it is :giggle:

WTG pass is easy. For me it was ATG pass when Rocca started to bite..

EDIT. I can never get BBS with 2 WTG passes. If you can get BBS with 2 WTG passes I think that's the reason why Rocca is so smooth for you.

^ This. Mine struggles even XTG, I had to abandon it entirely in some areas and settle for buffing WTG.

Used it again today (I'd gotten out of the habit of shaving daily but I'm trying to bring this thing to heel.) Back to the 7 o'Clock Yellow blade, I've come to the conclusion the sharper the better in this razor... Best shave with it yet but still terrible... I found the angle that works best for me is very shallow (same as you'd use with a Tech) and keep to short strokes, which minimizes the drag effect. But, as above it's still near useless for anything other than WTG.

No answer from Muhle yet after receiving my pictures, hopefully I'll hear something today as their customer support is usually first class.

Short strokes yes. I really "hate" the fact that so beautiful razor is so rough. Rocca is so damn sexy looking razor. I sold mine about a month ago and still keep thinking should I try the v3 too (I had v1 and v2...both are sold)...but after reading this thread I am disappointed that v3 is same old Rocca. At some point I thought that even after shaving with R41 I had less razor burn and pain than with Rocca.
