In elementary school we were taught that using "bust" instead of "break" was sort of ignorant, crude, or illiterate,... street slang. I use it when I'm deliberately trying to sound that way.
Wow ! I use one commonly used word and branded, ignorant, crude or illiterate. My reply ? I was always told if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing. So I will say, have a nice day !

Now you have something to post in "What made your day a crap one?" !!!:laugh::laugh:
Not at all, if you think some jumped up wannabe keyboard warrior is going to make my day a crap one, you need to think again. As for English and its use we were there first on that one. I think you are the one having the crap day, and I don’t see anyone supporting you here if you are going to have cheap digs at people, not the way this forum works.

This forum is full of great people who I have always found to be kind, generous and supportive of others.

Took in another load of biscuits, shower gels and deodorants for the students at my college. We are in 2026 and still many families can afford personal hygiene products like those.

One male student yesterday came up to me and a couple of colleagues yesterday afternoon and said he hadn’t eaten all day and was hungry. We managed to find him a KitKat and made him a hot chocolate. Obviously we aren’t allowed to do too much as it’s a potential safeguarding issue for us, giving to students. All we can do is keep a stock for all and offer to all.

Glad I can help, but a shame and hard to see and hear.

No "cheap digs" from me, just enlightenment. As far as English goes, you fellas may have provided the rough draft, but we refined it into a proper international language. French and German people speak better English than the average Brit.

Where I'm from in South Wales, it's hard to believe, but accents can change in as little as 5 miles.

Not forgetting regional words and a lot of which are dying out. Two of my favourites from Southampton are Dinlo and Mush.

Nearly forgot “cob on”.
It's sad to lose regional words, and I can only see it getting worse, especially with a distinct lack of verbal engagement today; kids today would rather text than talk face-to-face. I recognise the word mush, I think it's a word used by the travelling community, it means friend or mate around my neck of the woods.
