I, for one, will gladly welcome the cooler temperatures. I function much better in the cooler months. I don't like hot weather, and considering this has been the most sizzling and longest summer I can ever remember in the UK, I have not slept under a single sheet for almost four months. Bring on the colder weather for me, my ideal summer temperature would be 20 degrees, overcast with a slight breeze.

Speaking of cooler temperatures, I had to turn on our forced air natural gas furnace this morning. This is the earliest I can remember turning it on after shutting it down in the spring. Overnight temps have been perilously close to the freezing point with daytime temps between 10C and 16C plus high winds and rain. This trend is forecast to continue till at least this coming Monday.

All this follows a strange for us summer that had us running the cental air most of the summer. Temps were not really as high as they should have been, but the humidity levels were constantly high and there was more rainfall than normal. I have never seen the grass greener or grow so fast because of those conditions. At the same time, we were surrounded by forest fires bringing smoke into our area that at times was heavy enough to prompt health warnings. The weather has definitely been crazy and far from normal. I hope this is not going to be our new normal.

Yes. Weather has begun to cool some but where I am, that means it's just no longer sweltering. Just a nice warmth. I am wearing jeans more but am still wearing the Birkenstocks religiously and short sleeve shirts. Using air conditioning in the car less and instead enjoying the open sunroof and fresh air.

I agree with your ideal summer temperature. I do like the sunny evenings where the temperature's dropped to a comfortable level and the sun isn't trying to scorch me to death though.

Up here we've had one or two hot days but it's been mostly cool, wet and windy. Much like the rest of the year.

Milk Loaf.

Watching Bake Off and there was some talk about a Milk Loaf which I hadn't seen since I was a small boy. I went to the supermarket this morning and bought a loaf and a pack of bacon. The bread was soft and white, just as I remembered.

Half way through preparing a bacon sandwich, bacon crisping up nicely, there was the dreaded knock on the door, friends and two teenage children.

I was relieved when I asked them if they had breakfast and they said yes, didn't stop them scoffing the lot even the crust. They had never had a Milk Loaf which might be a northern food but it went down very well with a pot of coffee.
