Homelike Taiga Adjustable Razor

I don't think it ships with an OC base plate anymore, though. :-/
No, unfortunately the OC base seems to have disappeared.
It’s not included with either the SS or Ti razor, or even available as a separate/ add-on option.

Oohhh, does that mean my 0.9 OC plate is unobtanium and I can sell it for £1000s?:wink:
:roflmao:
Not really... we were talking about the OC baseplate for the Taiga adjustable, which used to be included with the razor, alongside the SB plate.
I imagine you’re referring to the .9 OC plate for the Start razor, which is not currently in stock, but still “expected“.

To be honest, waiting for the Start plates to be in stock is like waiting for Godot.

There was quite a long wait for this second batch of SS Taiga as well.
And the stock was quite small. I believe they put them on their website early/ mid afternoon, not sure how many they had initially, but around 4 PM (UK time) they only had 40 in stock, and now down to only 15.

The old OC plates aren't compatible with the new Taiga razors. They've changed the sizes of the new ones.

Good to see the price difference (between paying in rubles from Russia or USD from abroad) has now been sorted out.
It makes the SS Taiga about 50 USD cheaper than what I paid, now at just under 200 USD before shipping (though currently not in stock).

A few thoughts...
Only used it once, but really liked it, very smooth and comfortable for the efficiency level (went up to 3.5 so far).
It’s a shame that the razor doesn’t come with both SB and OC baseplates included, like the first SS batch did.
At least the Ti razor should include both baseplates, considering the price, in my humble opinion...

For the SS razor, if it only comes with one baseplate (SB in this second batch), at least the other plate (OC) should be available for purchase as an add on/ extra.
I heard a rumour (no idea if true...) that in the future they will only sell complete SS razors with either SB or OC baseplate. Which means that anyone who wants to have both plates could only do that by purchasing two complete separate razors.... doesn’t quite make sense to me, so hope that’s not the case.

Taiga Titanium adjustable razor

Polsilver (Poland) blade

Chubby 2 Brush

CC Copper bowl

ETHOS Lavender soap & Post Shave Serum

Inaugural shave with the Ti Taiga. Let me start with if you are OCD about your shaveware you may be spending more time bringing this razor back to its polished shine. My top cap and parts are very high polished, equal to my High polished Wolfman Ti razors. I played around with different levels on my WTG pass. I found blade feel at about 2.5 but it was very smooth all the way to 5 where I stopped today. Very different than my Rex which starts to feel harsh at 4 (for me).

WTG Stayed at level 5 for the majority of the shave and was rewarded with a very smooth DFS

XTG I dropped down to a level 4 and it was very smooth, leaving me BBS on my cheeks but my chin, upper lip and under the jaw needed a 3rd pass.

ATG. I dropped down to 3 and could just get some blade feel, this 3rd pass left me BBS without nicks, cuts or irritation. I did an Alum pass and felt my normal sensation of just a small sting. Face wash and ETHOS post shave and I’m ready for tonight’s meeting.

Like the Gibbs and Rex and the SS Taiga the razor is slightly head heavy, but easy to maneuver. The size is close to my Fatboy, yet lighter. I was very happy with this first shave but need to play with it more to get the full experience. You can easily dial it around 3 times, much like the Rocnel Sailor so I will need to open it up more to see how far I can go. For today, I can say this can easily be a daily shaver, even for people who prefer a mild shave.

I’ve had a few more shaves with the SS Taiga. Very smooth and comfortable, really enjoying the shaves.
It’s fairly head heavy, especially compared to other razors I’m used to, but not to the point where it affects the overall balance and manoeuvrability.
I do find though that, when I hold it, it’s more comfortable if I rest my index finger on the adjustment dial. Although I certainly wouldn’t say it’s loose, the adjustment dial seems fairly easy to twist to a different level, so I do wonder if I might unintentionally end up moving it with my finger whilst shaving...

What do other people think?
Especially those who have used a Taiga razor from this second batch, as I’m not sure if there were any changes made between the first batch last year and the second one last month (in terms of how easy it is to twist the dial).

Interesting. I remember that one of the teething problem the Rex had was that it was too easy to turn the adjustment knob during the shave. This was then sorted by fitting a stiffer spring

Yes. I don’t have a Rex, but remember reading about it somewhere.
I haven’t read anything similar about Taiga, either the initial batch or this second one, and, as mentioned, not sure if they’re the same or they made any changes between the two batches (making the adjustment dial stiffer or looser...).
That’s why I thought I’d ask here.
Or maybe it’s just me and my fat fingers.. :)

I think I remember @HomeLikeShaving replying to a few posts here?
So hopefully they might answer this...

I have one of the first 100 razors and it’s very easy to change the adjustment dial accidentally while shaving. I check it between each pass.
