Homelike Taiga Adjustable Razor

About what other razors would be comparable to #6 setting, of you've had enough time with it?

Nowhere near enough time with it + I'm lousy at comparing stuff like that.

At the Aussie forum from which I sometimes cut and paste Errol compares a lot of razors to the various Karve plates, including the adjustables. I think he does this with the Taiga on several settings. I'm not sure I agree with him all the time, but I believe he tells it like he sees it.

Happy shaves,

Jim

No problem, I understand. Don't ask me about exact shave soap scent notes cause I must have skipped class that day. Haha.
I used a SS on the prototype pass around but it's been to long.

Shave pedigree at its finest. Truly is a remarkable shaving tool the Taiga. Loaded with a Gillette Minora blade and 4 days growth gone in minutes. Three superb passes ( the 3rd was just a lengthy buff run to use up the way more lather than I needed fiasco that I conjured up) that left no doubt of the eventual outcome. Not a lot of talk about HomelikeShaving and their Taiga or even their stable of razors. And I won’t mention the current state of events happening as this is not a political thread (trust me, I get it as my soul breaks for the savagery & pain that both sides are inflicting upon one another) and solely involves the use and experience of one of the finest razors made today. And that’s a fact. It has its detractors that fortunately for me sounds like a they problem and not a me problem. Call me lucky.

I was also fortunate to pick up one of the SS Taiga’s from a member of another forum. Like yourself, I love this razor and feel that it doesn’t get the respect that it deserves.

I have one of the original 100 production pieces and that came with an open comb base plate as well as closed
Yes, unfortunately that was the only batch that came with both OC and SB plates included, they then stopped doing that.

There is a new open comb available. Are the parts interchangeable?
Not really…
As mentioned, only the initial production batch came with both baseplates included. The second batch was SB only, and then they started producing and selling separate SB and OC razors, both for SS and Ti.

I believe they were previously asked about it, and said that they were only planning to sell full razors (either with SB or OC baseplate), no separate parts/ baseplates.
If I remember correctly, they mentioned something along the lines that one of the reasons was that a separate baseplate could certainly be fitted/ screwed onto a razor (as Taiga can be fully disassembled to its components), but it wouldn’t have been properly “calibrated” for that razor, ie the different ”aggressiveness“ levels might not have the precise expected gaps, etc… 🤷‍♂️

A quick plug for this awesome razor, the Taiga from HomelikeShaving. With its inspired design from the Gibbs Reglable there are similarities but, this razor goes down its own path. From very mild to extreme gap and feel, it is quite remarkable on how it still stays relatively smooth in the upper ranges including when it’s “overclocked” for lack of a better term or definition. A simple yet wonderful creation in its simplicity, design and implementation. Superbly crafted and machined to deliver easy daily shaves for the everyday user as well as the shaver that prefers shaving 2-3 times a week. And if you happen to be in the wilderness in pure survival mode for weeks at a time, once back in civilization this razor will take on a couple weeks of growth without blinking an eye. One of the best performing razors made in the last decade regardless of country of origin.

Great shaves to all….
