Great review, Wayne.Had my first shave with the Homelike just now. I bought mine from a member here, it is the polished version with 0.69 & 9.0 SB plates in the box. First impressions are really good, it is solidly made, as expected from a Russian product and it just feels 'right'. Whinges, well yeah it is me after all, I'd like some knurling on the handle but in use it didn't slip so that's just cosmetic. I'm getting really bitchy with handles these days.
I started with Tabac, Muhle XL Synth, Shark blade 3rd use, maybe 4th and the 0.69 plate. I didn't have a lot of stubble to shave but the Tabac provided a super lather, as usual, so I got to it.
First pass gave me one of those genuine "Have I put a blade in?" passes, I couldn't feel anything on my face at all, I ploughed onwards.
It did cut, no doubt but the smoothness was unreal, so much so I changed up to the 0.90 for the second pass.
Lathered up with the Tabac and had at it again. I was expecting a much more pronounced blade feel but No. The 0.90 felt not much different to the first pass, buttery smooth, I was never in danger of nicking myself, a bit of buffing and I was done.
If I am being hyper critical, I can still feel a little stubble ATG on the jaw line but zero irritation, redness, weepers, or any feeling I have shaved at all.
This razor would definitely suit the Pils supporters out there in shave land. If you like it mild then it should be on anyones shopping list and right at the top, it is that good. I wanted a replacement travel razor after PIFing my Slim to that Guardian of all things feminine in the shaving world, Old Bumfluff face himself @Steve Bowles
and this will make a great travel razor for me on the 0.90 plate, the 0.69 being of no practical use to my face for shaing with sadly, even if I shaved daily. I my allow the missus use of it for her legs.
I'm gonna upset some folk here when I claim it is a Pils Killer for my money. If not killer then certainly a real alternative to that razor.
I'm going to check the plates on offer, I believe there is a larger blade gap plate, if so then I'm having it. Before I do though I'll load up a Feather and guage the difference. It's a cracking piece of work Gentleman.
1.18 is surprisingly smooth.Great review, Wayne.
There is a 1.18 closed plate, but also the 0.90 in OC. 1.18 is definitely more efficient, yet without the additional blade feel you'd expect from that increase.
Well done. Your English is much better than our Russian Happy New Year.
