Homelike Start DE Razor

.69 requires too much work, even for me, and I like it mild. I thought that .90 is all I need. But then, I have tried 1.18, and I was again, pleasantly surprised, how protective this razor is to your skin. It feels milder than GC .84. Currently my shave routine is 2.5 pass (wtg+atg and xtg only on jaw line) with 1.18 every other day (every day if I have some meetings to do - it is then atg + xtg on jaw line ). I have to say that I don`t use "katana like" blades, and have paired the head with longer and lighter handle.

How this razor compares to the Tatara masamune or nadachi? Thanks.
For me the Start is slightly smoother, less blade feel than Nodachi but the Nodachi is significantly more efficient. When I put the Masamune SB plate with the Nodachi top cap it compares quite closely to the 1.18

Has anyone tried the .90 open-comb head?
Then again, I wish I the chance to try this razor before buying one

I have it in 'matte'. The coating is thick enough to make the baseplate and top cap stick together really quite well if there's no blade in the head. Almost asked for a replacement. But then it at least holds together when it's in the razor box.
As for how it shaves, it is smooth, clamps the blade really well and it's smooth enough to glide through skin imperfections with ease, too.
It kind of feels like a smoother, improved version of the iKon 103. It shaves a treat and feels somewhat similar to the Ascension DOC, with a wider range of working angles. Between it and the Ascension, I'd for for the latter, because I can pretty much swing it around with abandon, but the OC Start might just be my second favourite open comb. Shares the spot with the Rocnel SE-P OC, maybe pulls a hair ahead of it because of less faff when loading the razor.
I don't have any of the Start closed combs to compare it to, though.

That's not good, I was tempted by a matt one myself. Knowing that it's coated puts me off and I'd likely go for a different finish.

Mine arrived in a similar way. It's loosening up now after just three uses. I've had the polished version and prefer the satin finish.

I wanted to go for the sandblasted one, but I haven't seen a matching top cap in the store, so I went for the satin one. Perhaps the sandblasted one and the satin one would go well together, though.

I want a stand, but there's no satin, only polished or sandblasted. I was thinking of the latter for my satin.
