Kevy has very kindly lent me his Homelike Start set to try and I gave the 1.18 plate a try last night using a second use Voskhod blade. I was impressed with the smoothness and efficiency of the razor as it mowed down theee days worth of growth with ease. I’m not so sure on the handle, though, as it felt a little slippery in use to me.

That was my only fear with the polished set. Handle looks a lot like a polished Windrose Slant handle I had. Was way too slippy

Second shave with Homelike 0.90 SB. It is a mild setting. I did easily 3 passes + touch ups with fresh Feather blade. It is like zero blade feel. But it still cuts close..it is not like Feather AS-D2.

This razor is like the opposite of Tatara Nodachi in blade feel. Both great razors but with Homelike I am sure I could shave 7 times per week.

One more thing the finishing of this razor is very slippery ( I don't mean the handle here)..I mean it glides on face like an ice cube. Very smooth.

2nd shave with the 1.18mm, back to my normal preshave shower routine and a blade I usually find comfortable, Astra green.

So it was a lot better than yesterday, no tugging on the 1st pass but still a lot of blade feel. By the 2nd pass my skin was feeling the burn a bit. I'm used to the Karve D plate which has a gap of 0.98mm and I find that smooth but occasionally a little harsh. Whereas the C plate at 0.85mm I found super smooth but no blade feel at all.

The shave is super close though so perhaps I don't need that 2nd pass, just the 1 pass and touch ups. I'll give that a go and maybe try some different blades to see if I can find that golden pairing.

I just have the sneaking suspicion the gap is too much for me and that maybe the 0.90mm would be spot on.

Oh and no grip problems for me as I've got the head on one of the Alpha Bravo group buy SS handles.

First shave done and I used the 1.18 plate as I have 3 days of growth.
And what a fantastic shave. Seriously this is the best razor I have used in as long as I can remember.
This has the smoothness of the Carbon with incredible efficiency. More efficient than the Nodachi. It looks fantastic, the finishing is as good as, if not better than the Gamechanger et al. The blade tabs are covered.
The handle is a little slippy, but a touch of Alum eliminates the issue.
The 1.18mm maybe a touch too much for daily, but for 2+ days growth it is outstanding. I'll go again tomorrow with a lesser plate...

@HomeLikeShaving you have created a fantastic razor...:highfive::highfive::highfive:
