Blackland Vector SE razor (AC type)

SOTD. 2.5 pass BBS. Absolutely LOVE this razor. Used a Schick Proline with it for the first time and felt just as good as a Feather Super. I am so torn between giving the crown to this or the Paradigm SE. I thought the Paradigm was a hair better but every time I use the Vector, it makes me love it even more. The design of the head of this razor is just incredible. I have been using a heavier handle and a very light touch with it on my face and I just can’t get enough of it.

I understand what you are saying I also give the nod to the paradigm SE but it's really hard to compare because they both are wonderful and the feel is different but both the shave of each are equally good

It’s funny because I prefer the Schick Proline blade in the Vector but the Feather Super in the Paradigm SE. That makes it even harder to compare!

Thanks @halvor for the Feather Supers.

I've now had two shaves using the Super in my Vector and (unsurprisingly) blade feel was far greater and so the shave was less comfortable, but (surprisingly) the shave was no closer and I still completed the same number of passes and touch-ups. The Schick Proline remains my blade of choice in this and all my other AC razors.

Several years ago I was very excited to hear about the Bullgoose / Huntsinger Katana which then became the Asylum Rx. The initial description of the Rx sounded like the perfect marriage of the low-profile Cobra head and the rigid clamping method of the Mongoose. In practice I found it to be ugly, flawed (head heavy, awkward to load / unload) and far, far too aggressive to enjoy. I was hugely disappointed.

For me the Vector is everything I wanted the Rx to be and what I look for in a razor: it's light and nimble; very cool looking (yeah - I'm shallow); comfortable but shave close enough to achieve BBS; and well made to satisfy the engineer in me. Thanks Shane @Blackland Razors

I finally get round to posting my long overdue thoughts on the Vector.

Many years ago, I was fortunate to buy one of the first batch of King Cobras, which I thought was amazing. The Cobra was slightly too aggressive, but the KC was perfect.

Then came the SS Mongoose, a very capable razor but I felt it lacked something.

Like @p.b, I closely followed the developments of the Huntlee Katana / Asylum RX, and bought the RX as soon as it came out.
The first one I received didn't fit together properly, but was soon exchanged. I found it too aggressive, to the point where it was unusable.

I've had the Aluminium and SS versions of the General which are both excellent. I would have been happy to stick with the SS version, but then the Vector was announced.

I managed to pick one up from BST a few weeks ago and have been using it on and off since. I did mange to use it exclusively for 3 weeks, but I missed the Blackbird and had to go back to that for a few shaves.

The Vector is amazing. The best AC type razor I have used by far, bar none. The aggression is perfect for me. Paired with a Schick Proline, I can get fuss free BBS results in a couple of passes without even trying. It is forgiving and I find I don't have to concentrate to hard like I have had to with other AC razors.

I found the handle a little too slim, but fortunately my favourite handle, the Ikon OSS fits perfectly. I'm a little worried about damaging the post on the top cap as it's quite slim.

I still get caught out by the sharp corners every now and then and unfortunately I don't trust myself to file them down. Guess I'll get used to them.

Some have said the Paradigm shaves better, but I can't really see how that's possible. Regardless, I am not in the slightest bit tempted to get one. In fact, the King Cobra will be going on BST in at some point I the new year.

Well done Shane, another amazing razor.

I agree with your assessment and Shane replaced my top cap and now the edges are smooth no sharp edges I also own the Paradigm SE And yes is double the price but it is even better than the Vector. You have to try one to see. It's like driving a luxury Mercedes as compared to driving a nimble sports car

Like rawfox1 I have used both the Vector and Paradigm SE. Both are great razors and are very close efficiency wise. My preference leans to the Vector and the primary reason is that the Vector has been designed to give some blade feel. There is none with the Paradigm SE.

I understand what you are saying. Put a Feather Super Pro in the Paradigm SE and you will feel the blade but the shave is still smooth. It seems you are using a different plate when using a Super Pro

That's good to hear. I sold my Paradigm for this reason. I had a fantastic shave this morning with my aluminium General, which put the Paradigm to shame, at least in my hands. Hoping the Vector will be even better. I seem to get along well with Shane's razors.

Good analogy, but what if you are happy with the nimble sports car and see no need for a luxury Merc?

I appreciate the report , but I do not like the appearance of the Razor as shown in the sideview as the head is not at all in proportion to the handle. I prefer the looks of the Paradigm, though I shall be getting neither as I am more than happy with the shaves that I get from my AC/SE Razors. I probably have too many of this Type already.
