I have 99 ... after getting to over 100, I slimmed down. It rose above 100 again and I slimmed 'em down ... again, that was the last PIF. I like to keep under 100, just as I like to keep the number of razors I have under 200 :roflmao:
:D
I was going to ask how many you had.

My PIF has arrived, thanks again Paul.
Like flobberdob, straight on with one.

Really interesting. Just as I had hoped.

I have never wanted any 'western frags' that everyone seems to love.
I have always found them a bit irritating. Nice enough on others but when i have tried them they just get on my nerves.
A bit 'surface' (?) if you know what I mean?

Anyway, these really do have some depth don't they?
And boy they need soooo little. I got some on my fingers fiddling with the top and that was just WAY too much.
Have you even made a dent in any of them?

This is going to be really interesting.
:D

Thanks again. (again)

... a dent? Not much, but I did get a lovely Tobacco Rose from Mr Perfume quite recently and that is now 2/3 full. It's been one I've worn a lot.

I know there's a real danger of buying in loads and getting completely lost with all the scents and that is exactly what I did, but I would encourage folks to take the slightly longer journey and understand each one in turn. You might get some hints on scent from the notes about these oils and upon application only find one or two, but an hour later another note comes through, then another ... other times, there'll be a note in there which you just don't know what it is, but after trying a good few you'll find yourself clearly identifying saffron or jasmine or amber and really understanding what it is that they do to scents on the whole.

I really thought I'd be an Oudh-Head, but it turns out I'm am Amber Man! Amber with patchouli over a black musk, something writhing with cough mixture balsamic sweetness countered by that green, almost minty leafiness of patchouli over a proper good stink of musk, lovely, oudh just rounding things off and giving a real depth of fermenting fruit. Amazing!

I've put oils aside having really not understood them ... weeks later, they make perfect sense.

Returning to my top post, the ingredients are simple: florals, leaves, spices, ambers, woods and musks. All mukhallats are made up of that ladder of scent and your own personal blends will be made up of some or all of those; blends made up on the skin. Fortifying a mukhallat with a dot of your favourite single note is also something I'd encourage. Formally making up your own blends into a fresh bottle is something I would not ... make them up on your skin and enjoy that every time it will be different :D

Think sand dunes ... the land is always roughly the same underneath, but the texture on top ever changing.

Today I put a tiny bit of Al Haramain Haneen from one of the PIF's Paul gave out. It had a pleasant smoky citrus smell but as I'm not at all use to it I couldn't quite decide whether I like it. Curiosity got the better of me and I've just dabbed, as in touched the roller without rolling, some Nemat Shahi Kauser on top and it completely dominated the scent with a strong leathery tone.

20 minutes later and the Haneen has started to come back through and they've blended wonderfully. The Nemat Shahi Kauser has gave it a really warm masculine boost without dominating the higher notes of the Haneen. Let's see what the next few hours does.

If you like sillage then these attars are where it's at!

I've heard of the perfume parlour replica oils, are they similar to these attars? Should you wear just a dab in the wrists?

Some of these scents sound great. The longevity signs good too, I have quite warm skin and some EdTs don't last very long.

Al Haramain Nasmah - Started off as a very lively spicy scent with a flowery rose smell which was maybe a touch strong. After around a hour it mellowed considerably to a warm floral scent and is very nice indeed.

The 3 little samplers Paul PIF'd me are more than enough to last me into next year given I don't often wear scents and still have a few years worth of barely used Xmas gift aftershaves from SWBMO's mother. Although I'm tempted to start splashing out I'm gonna hold fire and really get to know them......until next time I'm in my cups and within clicking distance of Ebay.

Today ... Al Haramain Fakat Lil Nisa ("For Women") listed as "Top: Bergamot, YlangYlang, Geranium, Saffron; Middle: Cedar wood, Sandalwood, Agar wood, Jasmine, Violet, Orris, Rose; Base: Guaiac wood, Amber, Musk, Moss, Tonka Bean" ... and although for women does still have a good, strong mossy undercurrent.

Perfect compliment to a spritz of Rasasi Egra (for Men): http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Rasasi/Egra-Men-19678.html

I think I've found my favourite, it's the black musk. It reminds me of my time in India think it's because it smells slightly of incense. Oh and I've got another 10 on the way :)

"The black musk" ... oh, there are many black musks ... and they're all different :D

Look also to Musk Himalaya, K2 & Egyptian Dark Musk. But also to other Black Musks - there's an abundance. Many are the same, but there are many out there.

Lovely! Al Haramain's? There's a real spiciness in that one. Al Rehab's is proper fecal to kick off, but mellows just lovely. Apply a good hour before seeing real people :D

K2 is a real musky patchouli. It's quite wonderful, but a real tough one to find. If you get a really good minty patchouli, it'll layer over your deer musk. Himalaya is likewise, but a touch of amber in there sweetening it out.

Yes Al Haramains, really reminds me of Kashmir. I'll have to try the others you mentioned.
