A new razor comming

I was also curious whether you had looked into machining costs - it is quite a complex design compared to some other razors, so I wonder if that is a factor in scaling up the production?
I started to search for a workshop and found some who could do the job, but haven't received any proper estimations yet.
Indeed, this might be a big problem - I wouldn't like to end up with cost anywhere close to Velocity-ONE. I think crowdfunding is the best option here to decrease the cost of the final product.

I would be honoured and excited to test, although since I really don't get on with light razors I am not sure I am the best person to give feedback on a 3D print version. Would it be possible to put your head on a heavy stainless handle to get the kind of weight I am used to, or do you want people to also use your handle design? Handles are important I think, so I understand if that is the case.
Absolutely. It will fit any regular M5 thread, so I don't see issues with that.
I actually thought about shavers like you who like heavy razors and came up with a proposal. My handle is hollow, so it can be used to place a brass inserts inside the handle:

This would add significant weight to it, but I am not sure about it yet. Perhaps instead of creating a hollow handle, it would be simply better to create hollow and solid ones.

Edit: Wow, my last post here was almost 3 years ago. There's been a lot of water (and razors) under the bridge since then!
And I even didn't know that this forum exists till last Saturday, until I noticed on some website "Proud supporter of Against the Grain". Better late than never, I suppose.
Great to have you back!

I like heavy razors too, but I'm not sure my handles are thin enough to get inside your hollow handle.

Either way, I can shave with the plastic handle although I may use unintentionally more pressure like PAA razors that are plastic too.

It’s not like that. My handle is 12 mm on the outside, so it’s rather regular size. The insert would need to be purpose made to fit inside.
Having inserts would be yet another configuration option, allowing shavers to find sweet spot on balance and weight.

I think Razorock have started offering hollow versions of some of their handle designs. I believe they are drilling them out all the way through, but I would have thought that if you drill them out from the thread end of the handle you could leave some material in the base so that it affects the balance less...of course, it would limit how much material you can actually remove too, so it might not provide enough weight reduction. Also, some people like razors that are very head heavy. There is much to consider, but a simple hollow and solid version is probably the best solution. I have a feeling the Wolfman Guerilla might have this option too now I think about it.

Sounds interesting
A 1.5 gap with 0.10 exposure is normally close to my sweet spot, but I generally prefer more aggressive razors. I will follow with interest

Drilling from the thread end not all the way through wouldn't bring much weight reduction. As for regular M5 tap, it could be a maximum of ⌀4.2 mm. And on top of that, there would be water getting inside the handle.
You are right, Guerilla does that - hollow handle, but not drilled all the way through.

I was not sure about the insert idea, but now you have helped to abandon it, thank you.
There are quite specific mechanical requirements to fulfill if the insert is used, like tolerances of the hole and the insert's mating surface (so it doesn't wobble inside the handle), straightness, etc. Also, water channels would need to be integrated in the insert, so water doesn't get trapped. All this adds cost, so I don't think it's worth the hassle.

Four options then:
- 85 mm hollow, 41 g
- 100 mm hollow, 49 g
- 85 mm solid, 67 g
- 100 mm solid, 80 g

To my surprise, so far all of my testers prefer the longer handle claiming it's more comfy to operate.

@dawid if there is space I’d be honoured to participate- thank you.
That's great, thanks! We have the list then.

Sorry @dawid, I did not have time to write much yesterday. This all sounds very well thought through and very exciting for the community. I hope to be able to give you some useful feedback during the testing phase and wish you success for this project.

I like better the 85m handle.
My favourite ones are the Bulldog (Goodfellas Impero) and the Super Knurled (Razorock). I also like some from Yaqi, the one that is a copy from WR1. My Rockwell 6c has a good handle, it's just ok.

I don't prefer the thin handles (Fatip Piccolo, Lord L5 etc).

Now, I'm far from a razor expert. I have put down my technique through the years though and I get good shaves even with 4 passes & touch-ups. I chase the BBS like a greyhound.

I will stop for now, I don't want to hijack your great thread.
