Your coffee brewing method

+1 on the grinder.
I got a porlex mini grinder.
You get to play with how you like your coffee.
I haven't really really played with it yet but will do in the future.
It is still better than the ground version.
If nothing else, you still get decent coffee at the end of the week.
I always find ground coffee degrade by the mid to the end of the week.
I did weigh things out at the beginning but I can't remember if I am the same.
I use two scoops of beans which will be a bit less than two scoops of ground coffee.
Apparently I make it a bit strong though. So worth a play.

I do a similar time to @morr. I put the kettle on then let that cool down a bit while I grind my beans.
Then the water goes in with a bit of a stir for 2 minutes. I think that is too long to be honest, but I haven't changed it yet.
A coffee guy I spoke with only lets it sit for 30 seconds.
It is the pressure of pushing the water through the coffee rather than the 'brew time' that makes the flavour apparently.

Thank you for the info gents I will give it a go I guess for me it is going to be trial and error at first until I get my method perfected to my taste but that is the fun of coffee making.

Well, this thread and a couple of others have led to a few purchases... I don't even drink coffee :D :D :D my lovely lady does though and I want to learn, for myself and to make her lovely coffee! I'm intrigued to get into it, I've had one experience of a lovely coffee. That was when I was in Mumbai with my partner and I treated her to Royal High Tea at the Taj Mahal Hotel. We had many different teas and a gorgeous coffee, Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee beans (I have since learnt are one of the most expensive bloody beans, I haven't bought any!), but it was great. That sparked a little interest, but I never followed up on it. Then this thread came up and I've just gone for it, so here are my purchases. Waiting for them to turn up and all were bought used so I haven't actually pumped too much cash into this, but here they are;

I'm going to start a separate thread asking for some coffee bean suggestions. As I'm so new to coffee I have absolutely no idea what I like so it would be great if any of you knew of anywhere that you can get a selection of beans to try? That would be good for a few cups to play around with and understand if the flavour is up my street?

Thanks in advance

True! There are aeropress championships you can look up online and find contestants' methods, which is what makes the entire difference between winner and runners up, using the same beans. Fiddle with bloom and brew time, coarseness of grind, water temperature, regular or upside down method (I only use the latter). Trickiest part is that the bean itself makes a difference, I find, where x gets better with this grind, y is better with that, etc.

Olly @Looney12345, you could try something like https://www.hasbean.co.uk/collections/starter-packs/products/filter-pack, which consists of four picks of different beans, roasted for filter, two of which are Bourbon, a varietal that I dare say most find pleasant.
Thanks Halvor :D I'll see if anyone else has any suggestions on my thread and if not, I'll likely get that ordered... that or I'll go to a local coffee house if I can find one to sample what they have etc.

I've heard good things about Hasbean, haven't tried it yet. The best beans I ever tried are from my local roaster so I'm really lucky. Good price too!

I got an Aeropress for my birthday 2 weeks and it really has lived up to the hype for me. I buy already ground coffee and everything I've tried it's produced great tasting coffee. It rivals some great coffee shops here in Dublin for me.

Tassimo for me, on my second one, some nice new flavours recently. Obviously not the connoisseur's choice but fits the bill for us.

Same here, 2 weeks into my Aeropress and I am loving it. So easy to use and clean and it makes a decent cup of coffee too.
My Mrs bought me a bag of the Costa ground coffee to use in it and I have to say that, seems better then any other coffee I have had before ( I am no coffee expert though).
I did buy the metal filter for the Areo so I have not been using the paper ones that come with it.

You lot will hate me but I have been caff free for around 10 years now and a lot of people don't class de caff as real coffee. I drink Kenco Millicano and put 1.5 tbsp into a mug 1/4 cold water, coffee in and top up with hot which makes a strong lukewarm Americano sugar free too.
