I know! It's crazy. Who couldn't name those lovable mopheads? Loved Davie Jones, Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork.

When I was a teen in the 60's, we used to get a good laugh out of the Monkees... a group put together for commercial reasons. We didn't consider them a "real" group. and in a way, they weren't. But, when I hear alot of their tunes today, the music was actually quite good... as they well should have been, being professionally written to a proven formula..

BTW, when I saw Davy Jones' last wife, together with him on his last live performance on PBS, I instantly knew what killed him! What a way to go!

Cool! My eldest knew ‘em all by the sound of their singing voices by the time she was five or six years old. At around the same time, she could tell you if the song playing in the supermarket was James Taylor, Elton John or The Beatles. GREAT ear that one!!!

Afaik, many of the earlier Monkees‘ recordings featured other musicians on various instruments. It wasn’t until after they’d been touring for some time that their producers gave the group some leeway for playing their own tracks.
