How many deaths in police custody have occurred in Britain in the last 10 years compared to the thousands of murders by knife or gun committed by black men on other black men and women?
Good point. But this started in the USA. Protests here "came out in sympathy" as strikers tend to say.

That is civilian against civilian crime and happens to all people regardless of colour or religion. It is not a justification for mistreating any particular segment of society.

Deaths of anyone in Police custody or during an arrest are another matter. You really don't want the Police acting as judge jury and executioner when they think nobody is looking or would care. I am not saying the Police can't use lethal force if justified when making an arrest either.

I would assume most deaths in Police custody / during an arrest are more willful negligence or tough guy attitudes. There is a line between necessary force and excessive force.

Thats like saying it is ok for the police to molest children because child molesters do it far more.
Please don’t try and distort my comments. Go back to my original point - why are these people rioting on the streets of Britain? Take a look at the pictures of people tearing down statues - the same bunch of anarchists, Marxists and other extreme left wingers that you’d expect. Where are they when it comes to decrying the murder of freedom that’s happening to Hong Kong. The answer is nowhere to be seen - because more than anything, they hate their own country above anything else.

It's neither illegal nor unacceptable to be an anarchist or a Marxist, though maybe not very practical. There are also plenty of people who are disillusioned with the state Britain is in this year. I wouldn't go as far as to say "hate", though. But ask recent graduates, for instance, whether they see their future in the UK or in another country. I know people who are selling up and moving to the Republic of Ireland, for instance.

Can we get back to shaving and close this thread? I am always worried when someone refers to themselves as a "patriot" as if one can only be one if one agrees with their views.
If you agree with people expressing different viewpoints, then closing the thread seems to go against the principle. We’re all adults here so no need for drastic measures as far as I can see.

My news listening has been mostly Euronews lately, with Al Jazeera and France 24 next. Like today's 6 o'clock news on the BBC was the usual increase in UK Covid deaths and shops re-opening. Nothing I want to hear about. Euronews had a long feature on Brexit talks, missing from the BBC, plus discussion of R.Ireland's new coalition and their green agenda, plus abuse of LGBT rights in Poland. Interesting stuff. I mean, you need some solid news broadcasting to take your mind off the dreary BBC stuff.
