What motorcycle do you or would you have?

I don't have a motorcycle and have never ridden one myself. That said, I'd like an Indian Chief. But I'm not riding by myself in the NYC metro area. Way too many asleep-at-the-wheel drivers out there. I've been looking for a cabin in the mountains and if I can buy one I will take the opportunity to get an Indian for riding in the mountains of upstate NY.

what are people thoughts around Triumph bikes? Im wondering if its worth looking into the Triumph Tiger 1200 now instead of a BMW 1250 GS

I understand that the cycle parts of the Triumph are below standard.

It really is down to looks IMHO whatever appeals to you most.

I have heard that the prices of both are suppressed in the second hand market, I normally buy new but I could be tempted by a pre-registered model of either.

Is the Tiger/GS the style that you want as compared to regular road bike styling?

Im tall, 6'4" so that style is most comfortable for my body size. I have the BMW 850 GS and have done 1000 mile round trip up to Scotland and it was comfortable. I did learn on the MT-07 though. If I had room for two bikes, Id like an adventure style and a naked bike (just for blasting around on), but I only have the space for 1

Side issue. Have you tried this plastic polish for your screen, it will remove all the micro scratches that you might pick up. You need a tiny amount and the screen will look like new.

This size will last for years and costs around £15

Also works on phone screens, plastic headlights, visors etc. I restore old fountain pens as a hobby and use it to make dull plastic shine again.

Sorry, I sound like a salesman, but this is really a good product

I don't know where you heard that. Triumph are quality built and finished bikes, with nothing substandard about them.
The new low entry models are fairly basic spec, again no substandard parts

I have heard this too, including a report of a footrest snapping off in normal use  People call the manufacturing QC into question

Twas always thus with British bikes back in the day (70's) - usually decent quality metal and paint, but really poor assembly qc - if you bought a british bike, it required quite a lot of strip down and rebuild properley, often things like electrical connectors and gaskets. After that they were decent bikes, apart from the ubiquitous oil leaks.

I had a Triumph for a short while in the 80's

I also had a Triumph, mine was much older though, Mid 50s. The frame used to flex as if it was hinged in the middle.

The problems I have heard about with the new Triumphs were to do with weak centre stands.
