A final try of Habit Rouge for me... Not a fan of the EDT so prbably folly but giving the EDP a chance this time. Notino had a great deal where they dispatch it along with a 1ml sample of the same so if I don't like it I can send it back unopened at minimal loss - What a great idea!

I had the opportunity to try older version and although I liked it it would probably be used on rare occasions so I passed it.

I think you need to be careful with model number some models could not do that as far as i am aware. onerblade has released their own brand carbon blades. which should be cheaper and last longer than the overpriced feather blades.

postage is a bit steep to Europe so I'm waiting to see if local vendors will start carrying them.

I have a ton of feather blades for it but i can only get 2 shaves out of the Feather FHS-10 blades.

Your not kidding about postage,I tried to buy a grip sleeve that was £7.65 and at the checkout it came to £29.
I quickly moved on with my money firmly in my pocket.

It does have that old gentleman vibe definitely. And agree once we connect some scent to a picture in the head it's hard to change it.

Le Figaro arrived today from la France!

Dimensions:

It is a dense and lovely brush, made prior to January 1959 (there is a date on the box it came in). I gave it a gentle clean as it had never been used and retained that characteristic badger funk. The hairs are what today might be called (by Plisson) "European Grey" or more generally these days "Pure Badger", but nicer. There is a combination of what look to be trimmed tips and white fine tips, and a generous outer collaring giving the appearance of three-band, with these darker hairs having that lovely, dark chocolatey colour and russet glint. Doesn't show as well in the picture. It lathers up a storm, and is what I would call "scrubby", but also as soft as you please.

The lathing of the blonde horn handle is extremely tight and fine, I really must say, and it has a black horn plug in the base.

Am I happy with this blaireau? Oh yes. Very.

For comparison, a Plisson from the same period in "Pur Blaireau". I call this shape of Plisson horn handle "The Scarab" or "Le scarabée". The Plisson loft is tighter though taller and in a classic bulb shape, also having a collar of darker, higher-quality hair with that russet tinge, but the hairs on Le Figaro are finer and as tightly packed. Other than the status of the Plisson in general, I defy anyone to tell me that it is a superior brush! Don't get me wrong; I love Plissons, particularly the vintage variety of which I have several in horn, but would you pay up six times as much for one? Not me.

Fun fact: The c.1960 Plisson was acquired from what was then a recently-closed shop in Jouarre near Molien, France, where the playwright Samuel Beckett lived. It was around that time that he wrote the play "Happy Days".

Caucasian male checking in! A few decades away from my sixties, not exactly affluent, and you’d have to ask my hands about the wandering hands though.

I love the EDT - more so than the EDP - but haven’t tried the Parfum. Has it turned up yet? I have heard that the vibe is different to the original - more approachable - with more modern gourmand and boozy notes and less of the ‘Guerlainade’.

Oh no! Hopefully they allow returns? I fear that, if you may find the EDP too close to the EDT whereas the Parfum does seem to be a departure.

There’s absolutely no need to apologise! Habit Rouge is iconic but it’s certainly divisive. I definitely think it’s one of those frags where skin chemistry has an impact. On my brother-in-law, the powder and ‘skank’ in the top notes get dialled up without the balsamic, leather-effect that I get in the base.

Got it from Notino, arrived with damaged cellophane so I guess it will be my word against there's when it comes to return eligiblity... Not to worry, loss will be minimal now ebay have nixed their fees.

I think you're right, skin chemistry is so important. With the regular Habit Rouge I get rose, powder & amber... No leather whatsoever. Apparently the new Parfum is very similar to the old Dress Code limited edition flanker.
