Waist, Fanny, Lumbar Pack for EDC Items

No fanny packs for me. I started taking a backpack everywhere as a teen. Later, when I was in sales I used a traditional briefcase for my edc needs. After my career change to school-based speech therapist, the business briefcase was swapped out for a backpack which I would sling over my right shoulder. Wallet, keys, phone, pens and pencils, book, newspaper, torch (flashlight here), lunch, hand sanitizer, bandana, and other miscellaneous do-dads. Nowadays the only regular edc items I take are wallet, keys and phone. These fit comfortably in pants and or coat pockets. That said, I do occasionally miss my old backpack .

Apparently they complain that the heavy weight of all their school books causes them to fall over backwards.

I hardly ever see someone carrying a back pack over one shoulder as you said you did, and as I did also. Now both shoulder straps are used.

Obviously I don't know the laws where you are, but here what constitutes a"flick knife" or "switchblade" is defined in law. I quickly looked up the Milwaukee because I was unfamiliar with it, they're legal here and do not meet the definition of a switchblade.

They do appear to lock though, which makes them legal to own but not to carry without "good reason". For example if you're a tradesman and have one in your toolbox or are using it on a job-site it's fine.

Another reason why I like Swiss army knives, most of the Victorinox range are completely legal to carry* and they are generally viewed as tools rather than weapons.

*They do a few models with locking blades, but these are clearly described as such.

I have a Swiss Army Tool, basically a Leatherman, that doesn’t go anywhere, the blade locks making it illegal. Back in my scouting leader days I would take them to camp, in a locked box, in the boot. That included sheath knives. Given where I was going and beating able to prove intent in training young people how to correctly use them, I recon I would be good.

Main thing here is how much interaction do most of us have with the Police ? I have never been pulled over by them or asked what I was up to let alone searched.

Odd that the talk of fanny packs/bags got you looking up laws/rules for tools/knives...

EDC items in the title of the thread. There are many types of items that come under that title. Most are knives or bladed instruments. Always best to be aware of what you can and can’t carry.

Indeed a switchblade is a big no ! I have a Lagouile knife,I won’t carry that anywhere, it’s under 3” not lockable, but a very slim blade and could, possibly, maybe, be looked on as a stiletto blade. Not worth the trouble.

I don't plan to use the waist/lumbar pack as a purse that stays stocked. Some men do use theirs as a type of preparation tool. I would put the bike messenger bag in the Tahoe in that category. My plan is simply to have additional space or a spare pocket. However, you all have me thinking that I may encounter problems in some environs. I may have to open it up to show that I am not carrying a weapon.

You’d be fine carrying that, there’s no restriction on blade shape.

Regarding your Swiss tool, it is a bit annoying that you can’t easily find a multitool that doesn’t have locking blades. I have a Leatherman Juice which has non-locking blades but they’re long discontinued.

Sorry but I think they are hilarious. Generally used by teenage boys to carry their vape and more than likely drugs. Also usually fake designer brands like Gucci.

I agree. The practicality might be there, but they look out of place. The waist type or backpack keeps stuff out of my line of sight and as age diminishes our proprioception, we need our line of sight.

I had to look those up, the answer is no.
