Santa Maria Novella @2hot 2trot

I have heard remarkable things about the Santa Maria Novella crema da barba...and I was actually in the pharmacy in Florence on holiday..ready to pull the trigger but the shop assistant (a very beautiful Italian girl, eyes like Maltesers, the most olive skin) was rather rude and snooty when I asked a few questions..looking at me like I had been spat out and kicked by a leper.To be fair to her it was a very hot day and rammed with tourists asking questions so maybe she had a bad day, but it did put me off buying. However I am now regretting my foolish pride.
May I ask @bandito how good is SMN?

Sourav, it is the knot, my friend; plain, simple, inexpensive, but just excellent. It is a workhorse. I grew up in in a poor small farming village in northern Portugal, where I was taught to appreciate the value of things and I was thinking more of which brushes I would like to continue to buy.

I wouldn't say it's better than other top soaps and creams, but it is certainly up there. It has a mild menthol hit, a mild but appealing (to me) scent, and builds a thick, protective lather with little effort (more than MDC or Meissner Tremonia, but certainly not hard work). My skin feels good afterwards, particularly in combination with the splash. @halvor is also a fan

If you've used the old proraso or omega then you've used SMN.

P.S. possibly the closest thing I've used to it, or certainly what brought it to mind, was the Fitjar creams - I do like the current Proraso but that's definitely not the same as the current SMN.

NOS Schick Twin blades (didn't you promise I would find more of those?)

Still the same Mühle synthetic brush
... and I'll use the Lagavulin 16 as an after shave and to get over the trauma...

I like the knot of the LS(30mm) I have too. But my experience is rather limited compared to yours!!

And if we start a 'poor' competition, I spent ~13 months in a village (in a true third world country where I am from) that didn't have any electricity .

No electricity..That's nothing! I had to get up half an hour before I went to bed, eat a handful of cold gravel for breakfast before licking the road clean with my tongue...

Mick, what I found in my digging about SMN was that it was exactly the same as proraso and omega when they contained lanolin and that they were all made by Ludovico Martelli. I haven't used them myself but found these (it's like a cut and paste ingredients list). Do you have the current SMN ingredients list? These are from about 5 years ago. They've more than likely changed.

I was briefly considering Personna 74s for that reason, but that would be greedy
And NOS Schick Twins are the better blades.

I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.
