Well the Masamune arrived late on Thursday, so little time to look at it or try it out before starting night shift. Friday afternoon I had three days growth and with thick coarse beard it nicer to shave as the stubble has softened a bit. I had been looking forward to trying an open comb razor as I understand they are better with my type of stubble. The comb seems to hold more water and carries the soap lather along with it resulting in next to no blade feel but a close smooth efficient shave with no irritation using an Astra SP on a 3 pass shave and Agua de Colonia Barberia Shaving Cream folowed with the matching Balm. Onto Sunday evening and I had another shave with the open comb and the same Astra SP, with 24 hours growth and another 3 pass shave again a great shave with Mitchells Wool Fat.
Out of the box the razor looks great and feels great with a brilliant finish, it gives the impression of being light compared to the Blackland Dart (8g difference between them), this could be due to the feel of the handle being quite svelte, smooth and well balanced. Taking the razor apart you notice how well it is made and and the fitment of the handle to the head and plate,, visually there are no machining marks on it and the satin finish looks great. The engraved manufacture number and Samurai and where the top cap locks into the base plate look to be hammers are a nice touch.
So far I am really impressed with this razor, now onto the solid bar to see how it goes and a different blade in the comb.
