Pass Around Straight razor

I have PM'd @Looney12345 to explain that the postie has left a card explaining I need to pick the parcel up from the sorting office.
Obviously I was out at the time and I will confirm it is in my hands when I pick it up tomorrow.

It was tugging worse than tweezers,

Is there any chance I could borrow a strop
I am familiar with using one but would not profess to be a pro In any means.
I can however put an amazing edge on a knife,

These razors are not shave ready and need some help!

I believe that that they ARE shave ready as @Nishy honed them before he sent them to me. I did not use Friodur (used it in the past though), so it has only had the one user prior to you. @Looney12345 how was the Friodur when you sent it out?

I didn't get on with the Friodur at all, see below. @2hot 2trot I recommended you use the Krahn, that was a much smoother experience all around and is definitely shave ready, though would strop first personally.

Last nights shave report below and my 12th SR shave... Not sure it can really count though as I only had one pass on my face (left my neck alone) with the straight before moving on to the Tradere to finish up.

First the brush and soap combo. Haven't used my Romera Rustic Chubby for a while now and the same can be said for the Wickhams 1912 Citrus Musk. Both performed superbly, the knot on the Romera is brilliant and the Wickhams, well it's Wickhams, I don't really need to say any more.

The razor I was using is the Friodur Inox. I'd be warned by a couple of guys on the pass around that the Friodur feels a little rough and wants to have a nibble at you. Well I have to completely agree with the assessment. I had a similar few days growth to get through,as I had when I used the Krahn, whilst the Krahn was smooth, the Friodur just wasn't. I didn't nick myself, or cause any weepers, but after the first pass all over my face, I just didn't fancy continuing, I wasn't particularly enjoying it and I didn't want to cut myself. As such, I grabbed the Tradere, with an Astra on its fourth use, to complete the first pass on my neck, re-lathered and completed a second pass.

I do have a Friodur and won't say it isn't as smooth as my other razors. They can be, like my other stainless steel razors, as smooth as carbon steel razors. I guess it just depends on what they were honed on among other things.

The Friodur certainly isn't the smoothest for sure...

I'll caveat that then, by saying it is not the smoothest of the pass around straights.
(Oh and I am certainly NO expert!!)

50 strops on cordovan

Bevel was already fine/set on receipt. I found the shave a little rough, before and after honing. I have always found this to be the case with the Friodur razors. Sold a SS version a couple of years back. I'm no expert but I find them to be surgically sharp, whereas the Krahn is as sharp but feels smoother.

How are users of the pass around finding the Maseto brush?

I had my first shave with the Krahn after a 60 strop pass. This is my first time I have ever used a straight razor and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I must confess I only used it for my cheeks and a neck pass but am happy to report NO accidents
I wish I had picked one of these up years ago. In fact I will go as far to say I am now looking for my own. I am thinking of a 6/8 razor?
The shave is so different IMO to the DE razor. I want to start as I mean to go on and am using both hands. Surprisingly I found my weaker hand (left) perfomed quite well and I know it is a case of practising and then practising some more.

With regards to the Maseto @Nishy it is a huge brush that lathers extremely well. Beautifully soft on the face with a decent backbone but I have a major concern in that it has lost a few hairs when using. Best bang for buck I have so far come across but hair loss?
I will do a full review when I have finished one or two more shaves with the straight.
I will be looking to pass it on towards the end of the week.

Great news Wayne @2hot 2trot !
Definitely stick to what you are comfortable with. I strangely found go into South to North on my neck easier than the opposite, when I first started using a straight. A 6/8 is said to be a good beginner size, the Krahn however is slightly heavier than most 6/8 and I believe the additional weight helps massively. I also prefer larger blades, my first straight razor was a 7/8 Japanese razor.

No need to stress about the Maseto, it may calm down after more use, it was more of an experiment to appreciate the quality of the brush with multiple use. As I wouldn't have used the brush consecutively for months owning a few and others.
