Hmph, I was cleaning inside the lid of my Parker 45 the other day and must’ve knocked something as now it won’t fit back on the pen. Nothing like close. Grrr….
There are some metal fingers inside the cap, you may have twisted one. the experts say that you need to dismantle the cap but i would suggest that you try and smooth the fingers back down but if not then you can dismantle the cap by unscrewing the cap top to to release the clip. After that the inner cap and metal fingers clutch will come out. You can then take care of the twisted finger and mount it again. It is tempting to unscrew the clip but this may lead to scratching the cap, I would put some sticky tape under the clip to stop this happening

Tu unscrew the top you will need some pliers with something on the teeth to prevent damage and something pushed inside the cap to stop it spinning, perhaps a pencil or a Bic.

You will then have dismantled the cap and you can smooth out the metal fingers.

Parker 45s are increasing in value so it is worth getting it sorted, 5 years ago you could buy them for less than £15, they are now £25-30.

Parker 25 and Harlequin‘s also fetch good money. Lucky enough to have a 25 Ballpoint, Harlequin Shield Fountain and Harlequin Circlet pencil.

Thank you very much indeed. I bought the pen over the road on TSR and hadn’t used it since my move. It writes well and I will eventually pick up another similar.

There is another swisher one somewhere in all my things with a gold clip and all metal body, I think.

I have just the three Diamine inks - Imperial Blue (my favourite), Onyx Black and Oxblood which I can’t remember buying. Eventually I shall have a vintage Parker for each and one day, a writing bureau with fold down top and leather inlay. With no computer printer and no desire to own one, it’s handwritten letters, notes and labels for me.

Again, you have my gratitude as without this advice, I would likely have ruined it.

Current favourite ball pens.

Top to bottom.

Bastion Stainless bolt action
CountyComm Polycarbonate
CountyComm Stainless Steel
CountyComm Brass
CountyComm Copper

Bottom three are a little on the heavy side, Bastion is a bit of a fidget trap.
The bottom three have a pattern that reminds me of that on the handle of Muhle Rocca.
It is different, but it's a similar idea.

I’m currently using my Parker 21 fountain pen. I bought this pen in 1961 when I entered Form1; we could use only fountain pens in secondary school. I used this pen all through school, writing O and A Levels with it, all through uni, and all through my working life and now in retirement. It has functioned flawlessly all these years, requiring only a replacement of the nib hood about 20 years ago. As mentioned in my earlier post, I have +100 modern and vintage fountain pens and always have a couple of them inked. I rarely use a biro/ballpoint or rollerball, when I do it’s Bic Cristal Original; as cheap as chips, but remarkably reliable
