This was yesterday's shave, last use of the Astra, although it was still performing very well.
  • Nivea face wash in shower
  • Dr K Soap Company pre-shave oil
  • Ancient, cheap synthetic brush
  • Lea soap
  • Mühle R89
  • Astra SP, 5th(!) use
  • Dr K Soap Company aftershave balm, woodland scent.
I'm very new to wet shaving, and have only one razor. I'm making my way through a sampler pack of blades, but changing nothing else, other than the type of oil or balm I use, and even then, it's just two types of each.

In order of preference to date, they are:
  1. Astra SP
  2. Gillette 7 o'clock SS
  3. Mühle and Dorco stainless
  4. The Bluebeard's Revenge

Wednesday 25th March

A very busy day so it was lovely to have some quality sink time at the end of it. Two passes - both WTG to give the face some healing time.

This Wild West Brushworks brush was kindly PIFed to me but the knot separated from the handle in transit. I managed to reseat it and was very pleased with the result. It's a lovely brush - I'm starting to find I prefer the stubbier handles with the shorter lofts. Putting a brush together has given me a bit of an insight into yet another area of wet shaving. Every day is a journey.

The photo speaks for itself - the blade was a #2 Permasharp.

Enjoy your evening...

Pre shave: Hot shower and Neutrogena glycerin soap bar
Razor: Gillette Ball end old type
Blade: Feather (2)
Bowl: Arran Stone
Brush: Yaqi 26mm Bluish Violet synthetic
Soap: Glasgow soap company Iron Brew
Post shave: The Goodfellas Smile Orange Empire aftershave splash

On a recent SOTD u/Gerry7070 had recommended this aftershave to pair with the iron brew soap.

I ordered a bottle of the alcohol free version from Labarbiera here in the UK as it seemed closer to a balm, redoing the description.
The parcel showed up today and to my surprise they'd sent the aftershave splash.
I guess the alcohol free must have been out of stock and they've sent this instead, they really didn't have to do that as its a few quid more than the alcohol free version but it's very much appreciated.
Since it had arrived on a shave day, I decided to break rotation and have another go with the iron brew soap.

The shave itself was wonderfully smooth and efficient with old captain blade feel.
3 passes, no issues. (aside from the usual familial shavus interruptus)

I finished off with the new orange empire splash and was very pleasantly surprised.
Very little burn which quickly dissipated to a nice soothing menthol cool.
The scent itself is great.
While not an exact match for the soap, It's very much the same sort of profile with a tangy mixed fruit and amber forward scent, which happily, is a perfect pairing for the soap.

So thanks goes to Gerry for the great recommendation.

I hope you all have a great Wednesday!
