Asylum RX & ProGuard (#1).
The Art of Shaving Silvertip XL.
The Art of Shaving, Sandalwood shave cream.
Myrsol F./Extra after shave lotion.
The Art of Shaving, 'Unscented' after shave lotion (light balm).

As I always shave around every 48hrs, this shave was done y'day lunch time. Following that, the Asylum is not with us any more.
Had thoughts and reservations about giving it another last chance, but after y'days shave I'm sorry but no.
Sold/part traded with a minty Rocnel SE50 of a good friend y'day evening.

A mysteriously beautiful yet different image today, as the hype with the Asylum has gone way too far in my opinion (Photo credits: Mihaela Noroc).

Had first used the Asylum couple of times three weeks or so back.
Got hammered at the time but thought it was choice of blade and poor pre-shave tactics that spoiled those shaves.

Went back to the Rocnel DE (1/2 DE blades) since then, keeping soap + brush items constant, my shaves returned to perfectly normal.
Yesterday it was time to give the Asylum one more chance. New blade, 48hrs stubble, all other shave parameters untouched.
Result: two nicks in spots/areas where I very seldom get cuts.

Verdict: I cannot understand why such an aggressive razor is not fully revealed on the reviews and opinions posted.
I had more or less followed the impressions in forums and on YouTube upon release of the product.
A fellow wet shaver was urging me to get one, reportedly it was so good so as for me to start selling all my other SEs.
OK.

I have used hundreds or razors, including the Muehle R41 (pre- and after-2011) which was actually fine for me. But, man, this Asylum is a different beast.

Wet shaving popularity is constantly on the rise. Honestly speaking, one needs experience depth in order to provide an accurate and of significant coverage width opinion on a new product. I wonder how many of those fat cheek boys posting "reviews" on YouTube have ever shaved long enough with (say) a Feather SS, an R41, an R101, or an 11C so as to thoroughly comprehend what the word 'aggressive' means - and how these tools finally compare to an Asylum.

Trust and try to rely more on what your (limited or not) experience and on what your instinct tell you - not on what is simply and quickly spoken/written out there as soon as a new design & product is released.

Pre Shave: Hot Shower and Proraso Red
Razor: Ikon Shavecraft 101 + OSS Handle
Blade: Tiger Superior Stainless (#1)
Brush: Hans Baier Silver tip
Soap: Tabac
Post: Alum Block, Cold water and Thayers unscented
AS: Tabac lotion + Nivea Replenishing Balm

Fantastic shave today, it was my first use of Tabac soap and first use of the Tiger blade.

Tabac soap performed really well, very easy to lather and the lather was excellent, I had enough for at least two shaves as I overloaded the brush.

Tiger Superior Stainless blades seem to be as good as my other favourite blades, namely Astra SP, Bolzano, Lord Platinum and Gillette Silver Blue. A very close, smooth and irritation free shave today.

Razor: Gillette Executive Gold Adjustable Fat Boy (F 1) 1960.
Blade: Kai Stainless Steel (6)
Brush: Elite Razor Gold Laced Black Onyx Tuxedo
Soap: Route 66 Lumberjack
Aftershave: Route 66 Lumberjack Balm

Missed yesterday's shave, but on the upside I got some good rest. Excellent 3 pass shave this morning. The Route 66 soap and aftershave balm are excellent products.

Prep - Noxzema / Hot towel
Pre shave - Proraso
Razor – iKon B1 Deluxe
Blade – Permasharp
Brush - 'The Archduke' (Brad Sears Archduke 26/50 2-Band Manchurian)
Soap – Soap Smooth - Jasmine Tea
Post - Witch Hazel, Trevarno Revitalising Face Oil

The iKon B1 Deluxe/Permasharp combo was incredibly efficient, ploughing through 4 days worth of growth, whilst the Jasmine Tea was faultless in all aspects of its performance.. yeah, ACE!!
