Review Simpson's always alert.

Dear wet shavers zealots.
I recently acquired a not needed 135€ brush, Simpson's Captain 2 best badgers which prickles like Hell. Try to tame it, by rubbing over cotton towel, sinking it whole night into beautiful tallowated soap foam and even through a tarot spread. Nothing works properly. Even most cards on table were swords. 🙃.
I choose forget about it and burying its red coffin at the end of the draw, sending previously a text to Simpson's cause there's excessive likelihood to receive uncomfortable units with the brand
They behaved adequately asking for any fault in the unit and illustrating to me on the variability nature 'furry' sometimes displays.
It's my own experience there's no brand rooting it's prestige on premium stuff that don't deserve the label. I also believe treatment and selection make the difference and perhaps Simpsons has their own 'bad Mondays'.
Captain 2 prickle is obnoxious and beyond what you would expect from the humble The Grosvenor Pure Badger showed in the picture.

I believe what you say. I’ve also had similar experiences with new brushes. One was a Duke 3 Best, probably 11 or 12 years ago. Prickly as the day was long! I sent it off to Rudy Vey who replaced the offending Simpson knot with a lovely Shavemac two band. It’s since been one of my favorites and remains firmly in my rotation. The other brush was by Thäter. This one also had a serious problem with scritch. Bob Quinn replaced that knot with one of his stunningly perfect two band knots from years ago. This one also has since become a beloved member of my den. Will post some pics later tonight.

@chazt, I appreciate your thoughts and sharing on dealing with those discouraging units. I presume into my modesty, there's no room for lottery effect in premium brands, either brushes or toilette paper. Prize and quality should leave an adequate track in our minds. That's premium and when there's no such prime, then better off put the money elsewhere, what it seems you did at the end.
Thanks for the chat, chap, and that's an idea to follow up, a new knot for my demoted captain two.

I agree @Thalasos - the premium price is only justified when it serves as a guarantee of excellence. I'm very happy when a small pricetag nets me an excellent product beyond expectations.
Remember when in the past boar brushes exceed those expectations and Simpsons was remarkable fair on prices and quality. Nice old times, when 'You get for what you paid' was a paramount principle. At least in our small wet shaving world.

A while ago someone arrived in a new country after acquiring a company and asked what the defect rate was, to which they replied 12%.
He grimaced and became irritated.
When asked if he thought it was a lot, he replied:
-That means that out of every 100 pieces we distribute, 12 are unusable. It's a disaster! he exclaimed, throwing his hands up in exasperation.
It seems I've got one out of no matter what percentage Simpson's assumes as legit in its industry.

I haven't noticed any drop in quality with regard to Simpson brushes. I bought 4 recently and they are still the same great quality.
Great for you. Four immaculate and one defective that unfortunately I received accounts for a 20% of useless or failed units rate.
Thanks for adding your personal experience.

I've had 3 Simpsons over 49 years of shaving. A duke 3, commodore X2 and a chubby 2. For me the chubby 2 was a disaster. I shed 10-12 hairs every shave. It was the brush I had wanted ever since seeing my grandfather use one. I never been so disappointed. I no longer own any badger Simpsons brushes. I now only have the synthetic T3.
