Semogue Brushes Thread

I’ve seen it before. It’s a whacky phenomenon! Some boar knots take longer to break in and then it’s a non issue. I also wonder if the stripe of dye has an effect on that?
Or the very stiff and small knot! Great for face lather though but for only two passes.

Yes, but why? Consider this… perhaps in order to achieve a particular design aesthetic, the smaller handle is fitted with a lower lofted knot. Perhaps what you’re describing, the very stiff and small knot, has more to do with how long and often the brush is used, as it relates to the grade. I think it’s important to mention bristle grade because Semogue is well known for using different grades of knots in the various models. Iirc, they refer to the grade classes in percentages. (Maybe someone here has the classic Semogue grade chart by model? I think it was compiled by the gent who runs Vintage Scent? We had it pinned over at TSN.) Or maybe it’s because the smaller handle requires a more pincer like grip, which is not optimally comfortable for long sufficient break-in period that would yield split bristle tips, and therefore the knot has no choice but to remain stiff and small as a result.

we’d need a well stated hypothesis, legit procedures, survey a large sample, get peer reviewed, the whole ball of wax… I don’t have the attention span for that anymore!

The Semogue boar grade is still current for each model brushes, however, I’ve noticed only one model is the 1305 have moved from wooden to resin handle design.

Just keep your eyes peeled, I’m guessing Semogue maybe planning to remove wooden handles from the future market. All handles will be made with resin for future market, but, I have no idea what going on at the moment.

Mine isn't so comfortable, provides enough lather for the first pass but it's harsh on the face and I don't like it tbh.

Time to send it to the tras..... I mean to @SpeedyPC to enjoy some brush burn.
