Rockwell model T update.

The Rockwell Model t had 4,000 backers. I am not sure of the number of Fatboys or other Gillette adjustables in excellent shape are on eBay.

I got my Gillette Adjustables in the price range of $30 shipped and the Slim looks like brand new and to be honest all Vintage Gillette DE razors are top notch performers, they were designed just right to perform like a champ and pretty much the majority of them were made of brass.

TTO all brass @ 120-140 after the KS is done yes that's worth it, but not zinc head.... I was part from the KS and dropped at the end because of the choices of materials, if the razor was kept all brass and they raised the price $50 more I would of still be in the KS group.

I honestly hope and wish that the razor turns out to be top notch performer because it will make customers happy and it will be good for their business. Maybe after this KS they will get motivated to make all SS version of the model T via MIM process, I hear rumors that's the plan as a future project.

They made that one good...
The 6C kickstarter was a massive success I think.

Yeah, I think they have fekked it up, but I bet they come good to those with the patience...

From the updates, sounds like Rockwell initially went with off-shore engineering & manufacturing. Also sounds like Rockwell went with the wrong off-shore engineering & manufacturing. The 6c coincided with the Model T and probably reduced available resources.

I do have faith that someday I will get the Model T in the mail and guessing a fairly nice razor. I also now could care less about the Model T. My debate currently is refund or B/S/T or slight chance I might try it.

Well, I don't have a modern TTO, so withdrawing funds will postpone my acquisition of one, even further down the line. I remain hopeful, the Rockwell boys will deliver at some point.

Will they deliver? my opinion is yes. Did they truly delivered when it comes to model T? No they didn't and it is not because of the delays. They already had 20 all brass prototypes that were of satisfactory fit but they were not told that these razors were touched up on milling machines to have the desirable fit and finish.

Instead of Rockwell looking into cost of Model T in SS via MIM process they should of given us the option of a full brass razor that needs to be touched up on the mill and tell us what it will cost extra. That would of been much better considering they had 20 razors that were all brass and working as they should, instead of the last minute MIM molds option. I knew that the MIM would not happen because it takes time discussing with the manufacturing company, trying out things, testing things out, small changes made here and there and all of this takes time which should be a whole new project on its own.

If they said, hey if you want all brass option you have to pay $50 extra for the milling touch ups I would still be in that KS and waiting patiently, but I'm not going along with zinc/brass/SS razor at $90 cost where the most used part of the razor which is the head is made of zinc. Not going for it considering I have all of these that maybe are not perfect fit and finish like the Model T but they shave just as good as any other high end modern DE razor. They will deliver no doubt, just not good enough for us who left the project because of the metal choices at the end. Maybe they will deliver down the road with SS version of the Model T, only time will tell.

I thoroughly agree with you, I know they changed from the promised metal a few times along the long way, making the T less desireable to all of us. I do see that zinc is not as desireable as an all brass or SS head, but for me who I take good care of all my razors, materials used are not of the utmost importance, unless I'm paying top $. As such I'm still hanging on in there hoping for a release before I breath my last.

For the peeps like you who don't mind that the razor head is made of zinc I'm sure you'll start receiving the razors in a month or so, they will deliver but with a delay. Question is will the Model T live up to be of same quality shave as the 6S, that's something to be seen down the road.

This is actually the real issue here. Will the T be as smooth as the 6S,C on a more efficient setting than plate 6? I certainly wouldn't want a TTO that shaves badly regardless of the metal used. From the various discussions I get the feeling that the higher one goes up the aggression scale, the less smooth the razor feels and vice-versa. The Paradigm 17-4 & Ti II have proven this not to be the case, but Andy acknowledges, this is what usually happens, from some conversations I had with him.

February Update - Assembly & Shipping


Dear Backers,

We’re excited to share some great news on the assembly and shipping progress we’ve made since the last update - let’s dive right in!

Assembly & Shipping Progress

In last month’s update, we’d mentioned that we’d caught a production error that had caused T-Bar Head posts to be “off” by several degrees, but that we’d fixed the mold, produced replacement parts, and imported the parts. This month, our Canadian machinists performed the required additional work steps on these parts to prepare them for final assembly. Once these steps were complete, we were able to assemble some Model T units, and we’ve confirmed that the extensive reworks we’ve done on the head geometries of the Model T (as covered in the last few updates) have done the trick! We’re expecting we’ll be able to consistently assemble Model T razors that hit our specifications from here on out. Assembly speed will accelerate over time as we’re able to dial in our assembly and final-form quality control. That being said, the first tracking numbers should be out next week, and will continue on a weekly basis through March. The first batch of shipments this month will be all White Chrome and then we'll be able to begin shipping the other finishes shortly after! We’re still hoping to be done shipping by the end of May, as mentioned in previous updates. And without further ado, here are the pictures of the final-assembly Model T razors that you’ve all been waiting for!
