I live in NJ. I have a regular (Non Real ID) driver's license and my passport expired several years ago. I am planning to fly to to Miami next month and I am just learning that Real ID cannot be applied for online. It requires an in person appointment. I went online to book an appointment and there aren't any. The best I could do was in South Jersey two hours from me. I don't understand this process. How do you expect people to secure a Real ID if you can't provide suitable avenues for visiting a MVC within a reasonable distance? I'm livid. Yeah. I know. Wait until the last minute. But I've been checking for appointments for a while now. There never are any available. This is just insane. Ok. I'm done.

I got mine during Covid with no appointment, just stood in line where you get your drivers license. You’ll need a birth certificate, passport if you have one, your drivers license, and a two proofs of resident like property tax and utilities. The process itself is quick. When I moved to another state, I went to a small town and got it done in 10 minutes.

DJ (Dirty Jerzey slang for new jersey) has had a 6 point driver license thing for moons now so ids, bills and other things are a norm to get a dl. DJ gives dls to anyone that lives in DJ and proves it...

I use to hike the High Sierra's allot. People would leave food in the trunk of their cars at the trailhead. I've seen the results of bears ripping off the trunk of a car just to get at their food.

We had stopped in Yellow Stone Park where people had gathered to watch an adult female grizzly with her 2 cubs which the ranger had estimated to be 2 years old. People kept their distance and were quiet, yet you could see the bears wanted to cross the road but would not do so because of the people present. One fellow went to his vehicle, opened the back up and started to cook a meal up. At that the ranger lost here cool and ripped him a new one.

We had some American tourists up our way stop alongside the road, one got out to feed the black bear they had stopped for and someone else took photos of it. All went well until the food ran out at which point the black bear took exception and mauled the tourist who had been feeding it. He was taken to hospital for treatment but was otherwise OK.

Bears just are highly motivated by food no matter where you are. You can't over emphasize that and the possible bad outcomes from people who forget that.

In the mid 1980's we were backpacking up to Spence Field and spent the night in the shelter with others. One group brought meat to grill with the purpose of luring in a bear. While I cautioned them what they were doing was unwise, the did it, but fortunately were not successful.

A butter knife is not used for buttering bread and everyone uses the same butter knife.
