“Recently, a shipment containing a number of products imported from the U.K. was detained in the course of regular border activities because it contained meat products that were not accompanied by the required documentation.”

The statement goes on to say that the rejected shipment contained other products, including the bright-orange, caffeinated soft drink Irn-Bru described as Scotland's "other national drink" and Marmite, a traditional British spread, made from brewer’s yeast.

CFIA said Friday that the Brit Foods shipment was rejected at the border in Montreal because it contained meat products that were not accompanied by the required documentation.

Nothing unusual about a product imported from another country for retail sale having to meet the regulations of the country into which they are being imported. Should a market be considered big enough to justify it, a company will make changes to their product to allow it to be imported into that market.

How’s this for an environmental oxymoron…

on the way home this evening from a friend’s gig I stopped for a chocolate shake at a roadside McDonald’s drive-through, something I haven’t done in apparently a very long time.. dude hands me the drink, and get this, it comes with a paper straw - which it seems is absolutely miserable if you don’t suck it down in under 30 seconds.. so by the time I took my second pull on the shake, maybe 45 seconds later, the straw collapsed and was completely useless. Here’s the sick part.. the drink was served in a plastic cup with a plastic lid. Am I missing something?

I was talking to my window cleaner who used to work in the local authority recycling centre, plastic recycling is a topic that is important to him but largely ignored by his former employer, they recycle metals which are an easy goal, large cardboard is again easy, small plastics go to landfill as they are seen as too much trouble.

Paper straws are a joke.

My daughter still likes to use straws sometimes, she has a couple of stainless steel ones that can be washed and re-used.
