I keep reading about the brass Karve developing a patina with use and on another forum, someone mentioned his was showing change after just one use.
I've now used my F plate, seven times, and my D plate, twice, so my handle and top cap have seen nine uses. Everything still looks the same as when new. Not sure if I should consider this as fortunate, so far, or unlucky.

My Karve is developing its patina now with over a month of shaves. It takes time to notice. Chris Kirchen (Karve) has a beautiful golden brown patina on his own Karve he has been using since probably October. You can see it compared to a new unused one on his instagram account from May 9th and 10th. I was never into brass but now am!

To quote Chris his routine to achieve that perfect patina is as follows:

"I take the razor apart after every shave, rinse it in warm water, and towel dry it."

Ah, thanks Max. From some of the comments read, I assumed it was after only a few uses. I always dismantle my razors after each use, then rinse and dry.

I knew nothing about brass and was worried that the patina would be blotchy or spotty. But Chris says as long as one disassembles, warm water rinse and towel dry it should be a uniform patina. Looking foward to it....and stainless and titanium.

Canada Post and USPS exceeded expectations and delivered my Karve D plate 2 days earlier than anticipated. The razor presents very well out of the box. The finish looks great and should be easy to care for over the long haul. All the parts show the attention to detail and are machined with very tight tolerances. I am very pleased with the way the razor looks. The heft in the hand is nice and the handle is just over the top. Now on to the shave. Over the last month or so, I have modified my normal two pass shave routine to start ATG followed by a XTG pass ( ear to centerline). I only do this with razors that hold the blade very rigid. So I went with this routine with the Karve this morning. I found the razor to be very smooth with minimal blade feel. Certainly much less than the Timeless 0.95mm OC. The beard reduction was excellent and with two passes and minimal touch ups, I ended with a near perfect shave. I have a spot on my lower right neck that is a constant nemesis with all my razors. I anticipate getting better results with continued use. The razor was worth the wait.

Today I have received Karve razor with D, E, F plates. I bought this razor upon enthusiastic reviews of my friends (especially @vtmax , thank you my friend) from another forum. Now, after first shave can only say, WOW. I was impressed so much only after first shave with my Wolfman or Tradere OC 1 gen. I was waiting for this razor approx month but it worth it. I appreciate Chris name on packing (it is not anonymous) as well as "personal" thanks. I think we are with Chris "friends" now and I really want to support his business. Razor itself is technically great, piece of art. I can feel Chris is focused on details and he really loves his works. I loaded plate "D" first and it was like silk. Actually I thought, it can´t be efficient (of course, I was wrong) and loaded plate "F". Plate "D" is great daily shaver for me. I am not interested in plate "C" and milder, just due to my personal preferences. Plate "F" is considerably more aggressive, but I don´t think plate "F" gives me closer shave than plate "D" and be sure, plate "F" is not overly aggressive. For those who like Muhle R41 2011 or iKon Tech will be even "F" plate too mild … Daily shaver is "D" , but when I skip one or more day I will use "F" plate with pleasure and I am sure it gives me great, irritation free shave. One of best razors what I tried.
My bad is, I chosen 4 inch handle. To this razor fits much more better 3 or if you like longer handles or you have bigger hands 3,5 inch handles. Razor is better balanced with shorter handles. Metal smell of this razor is very little. I noticed after first use some sign of use. I don´t know why, but on baseplate are now more darker spots. When I consider reasonable buying price, it is one of best razors on market. Looking forward to buy Karve razor in SS and Ti. It could be then (IMHO or for me) best razor on market. This short review is based on only one shave and in future can vary, but I think, it could be even better.

Excellent first opinion, Petr. C plate and lower would be far too mild for me, also. Look forward to hearing your thoughts after a few more uses.

Would anyone care to try to create a list which would compare the aggression of the plates to well known (and tried) razors? I may venture that plate AA would compare to the Feather AS-D2 or am I making a sweeping statement due to the general consensus that it is ‘the’ mild razor?

Plate AA = Feather AS-D2

Please correct me if I’m off the mark as I have not got a Karve - yet.
