I've already tried mixing and matching the top caps and bottom plates between my pair, when I pair the new top cap with my original base plate there is a slightly smaller gap on one corner but otherwise they are identical (dodgy finish aside.)
I'm going to have to assume this is it, the intended design... I mean, Muhle HQ just sent it to me. In which case I think it's time to jump ship.

Shave done! I'm going to look like a right prat now but... Perfect shave. Smooth, efficient, no bite... Exactly how my old V2 performed.

So, the gap between the plates is a red herring, both of my heads have the gap and yet they shave completely differently... Suddenly Halvor's example begins to make sense but I wonder, what does cause the difference?

I’ve gone from glad to really puzzled.
If, as you say, visually they appear to have the same problem,
what are Mühle seeing in the photos that prompts a replacement?
Unless it’s just proof of ownership.
When mine arrives I will try to see the difference and maybe see if the old head can be, adjusted, modified, polished etc. to improve its performance - after all, its headed to the recycling.

Likewise lol. I'll be honest, I'm sat here comparing them (admittedly just by eye, but my vision is 20/20) and I cannot see a jot of difference. Next shave I will try the new top cap on the original base plate and see what happens.
I expect the difference will be larger for you as they will be completely different versions and yours looked worse than mine with the warped base plate.

I’ll do the same.......maybe just with the top cap though........and be careful not to get them mixed up and confused, it could be months before you get a reasonable shave with it

I'm glad it worked out for you. As I've said, I find the R95 to be a great razor, but then I only do two passes WTG. I've never found a razor/blade combination that didn't slice and dice XTG and ATG. If I can achieve a BBS WTG, why tempt the gods?

The finish quality is so different there's no risk of me confusing them! Hopefully the one you receive is better, they also throw in a 10 pack of Muhle blades which is a nice touch... Not the greatest blades by any stretch but not as bad as some make out (they are rebranded Israeli Personna's, I asked Muhle.)
