For me, what is moral or ethical can be summed up in what allows a life to be lived well. I cannot impose them on others although I do not think, logically, what is right has many definitions. Basically, we know right from wrong whether we live by them or not. They are not subjective standards because if so, they become meaningless. When we condemn others for being immoral, we raise a standard for ourselves automatically. Do we meet that standard always? If not, we are no better than the one we condemn.
In the personal example I posted, I do not think anyone acted unethically. They have regulations and a corporate culture that produces exactly what they have designed it to produce. The seller in question, very likely, has adopted this strategy before. I doubt they have much repeat business or perhaps little business at all. At some point potential supporters decide it is not worth the effort.
